John F. Kelly Washington Post We may not need as many Austin Powers movies as there are James Bond pictures, but one or two more might be nice. Robert M From the moment the groovy opening credits begin, Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery establishes itself as a truly unhinged and brilliant comedy that refuses to take itself seriously. It’s a hilarious romp that perfectly captures and simultaneously mocks the 1960s spy genre, all while creating a character so iconic he has become a cultural touchstone. Mike Myers is an absolute comedic force, flawlessly embodying both the shagadelic hero with a heart of gold and his arch-nemesis, the deliciously evil Dr. Evil. The dual performance is a masterclass in physical comedy and character work, with each persona delivering an endless stream of quotable lines and memorable moments. The film’s supporting cast, including the stunning Elizabeth Hurley and the scene-stealing Michael York, is pitch-perfect, adding to the film’s vibrant and zany energy. The humor is a delightful blend of slapstick, witty one-liners, and incredibly clever visual gags that reward repeat viewings. What truly makes Austin Powers a classic, however, is its sheer joyfulness. It’s a film that’s genuinely having a blast, and that infectious enthusiasm is impossible to resist. It’s a shagadelic, laugh-out-loud masterpiece that will forever hold a special place in the pantheon of great comedies. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/11/25 Full Review Jake C I liked it, it was fun but it wasnt my favorite by far. Its great to watch while stoned but not much else. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 08/05/25 Full Review R V. Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery is the perfect antidote to the self-importance of most spy movies. It pokes fun at every spy trope — secret lairs, elaborate death traps, impossibly attractive femme fatales — and does it with a fine-looking velvet suit. What makes it work is that underneath all the innuendo snd satire, is that it actually knows spy films. The parody lands because it respects the material even as it mocks it. Dr. Evil might be cartoonish, but he’s a smarter villain than half the ones in serious films. Mike Myers’ portrayal of both Austin Powers and Dr. Evil make the movie legendary.
