Critics Consensus

It's good to have Diaz and Foxx back, but they deserve a warmer welcome than this rote action-comedy.

Ben Travis Empire Magazine A solid action-comedy that proves just how much we’ve missed Cameron Diaz in the last ten years. Next time don’t leave it so long, eh? Rated: 3/5 Feb 4, 2025 Full Review Jonathan Romney Financial Times Back in Action epitomises the Netflix category of “casual viewing”, ie stuff you can have on in the background while you’re washing up. Rated: 1/5 Feb 4, 2025 Full Review Kristy Puchko Mashable Cameron Diaz and Jamie Foxx team up for an action-comedy designed meticulously for Gen X Jan 30, 2025 Full Review Lisa Johnson Mandell AtHomeInHollywood.com Regardless of the fact that this Netflix action comedy isn’t the most original movie you’ve ever seen, Back in Action throws an amusing curve or two, and the clever teaming of Cameron Diaz with Jamie Foxx is fun and refreshing. Feb 17, 2025 Full Review Jackie K. Cooper jackiekcooper.com Great chemistry between the lead actors and I had really missed Cameron Diaz. Rated: 7/10 Feb 6, 2025 Full Review Ayeen Forootan In Review Online it’s still almost painful to watch Back in Action abruptly spoil everything that is unique, charming, and witty in its first half for the sake of second-rate spectacle and overfamiliar trope-trading. matthias s **Review: 2.5/5 – "Back in Action"** *Back in Action* is exactly what it sounds like—a serviceable action flick that plays it a little too safe. First off, it’s great to see Cameron Diaz back on screen; she slips right back into her groove effortlessly. Jamie Foxx, as always, brings charisma and energy, making even the most generic scenes watchable. The plot, though? You've seen it a dozen times before—predictable to the point where you can call the twists before they happen. That said, the jokes land surprisingly well, and the chemistry between Diaz and Foxx keeps things moving. Andrew Scott and Glenn Close are, unsurprisingly, fantastic in supporting roles, though they’re a bit underutilized. The acting overall is solid—it’s just a shame the story doesn’t give them much to work with. Fun, but forgettable. Watch it for the cast, not the plot. Final verdict: Worth a watch if you’re not expecting to be surprised. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/11/25 Full Review Neil M A bit silly, but enjoyable all the same. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/10/25 Full Review Maclean P This movie has no good qualities to it, everyone making this movie must have been on something to have thought any of the choices made were good. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 03/10/25 Full Review Dave C Another instantly forgettable offering at the altar of Netflix. A real shame, given the time and effort taken to bring JF and CD on screen as a pairing. It is a basic, predictable story we've seen better examples of before Rated 2 out of 5 stars 03/08/25 Full Review Joaquim M I enjoyed the humor and the action in this film . I thought both Cameron Diaz and Jamie Foxx were great . I hope they make another .
