Critics Consensus

It's good to have Diaz and Foxx back, but they deserve a warmer welcome than this rote action-comedy.

Ben Travis Empire Magazine A solid action-comedy that proves just how much we’ve missed Cameron Diaz in the last ten years. Next time don’t leave it so long, eh? Rated: 3/5 Feb 4, 2025 Full Review Jonathan Romney Financial Times Back in Action epitomises the Netflix category of “casual viewing”, ie stuff you can have on in the background while you’re washing up. Rated: 1/5 Feb 4, 2025 Full Review Kristy Puchko Mashable Cameron Diaz and Jamie Foxx team up for an action-comedy designed meticulously for Gen X Jan 30, 2025 Full Review Ayeen Forootan In Review Online it’s still almost painful to watch Back in Action abruptly spoil everything that is unique, charming, and witty in its first half for the sake of second-rate spectacle and overfamiliar trope-trading. Feb 4, 2025 Full Review Mark Jackson Epoch Times The entire cast must have been in need some quick cash because “Back in Action” is not doing any of their resumes any favors. Rated: 2/5 Feb 2, 2025 Full Review Ruth Maramis FlixChatter Film Blog While Foxx & Diaz are fun together, they deserve much better material than this derivative schlock of an action flick. Chris S Not sure why the ratings are so low from the critics. This was a little predictable, but very fun. It was corny, but in all the best ways, and it doesn't take itself seriously, which is the whole point. The two leads are so brilliant, it doesn't really matter what they do or say. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/05/25 Full Review Logan H Your average Netflix 'consumer' made slop, not to say it didn't have it's moments, it was an easy Sunday afternoon watch with the family, but Netflix is either top of the line with ground breaking shows like squid games and stranger things with objective depth or bottom of the barrel with movies like this which feel as if they were made with the main idea of being easy to digest for your average viewer. I promise this isn't meant to be pretentious, I'm no stranger to popcorn films, I'll go see every new godzilla and kong movie with a buddy where i know in order to enjoy i must turn off my brain however, if you told me this movie was made with AI prompts to appeal to those who can enjoy a movie they don't remember the following day, I would believe you. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/04/25 Full Review Thérèse G Empty, glamorous couple shooting people. Aren't guns sexy and fun. Appalling. Cynical. Aims low and misses. Family fun? Manson Family maybe. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 02/04/25 Full Review Wendy B Great movie! Really hoping for sequel!! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/04/25 Full Review Lúcio Leonardo P “Family” entertainment of the action genre, which in its beginning until the middle of the film, reminds us of films from the 90s/2000s, “fitting” perfectly into the Afternoon Session, but drops in level in a way when reaching its final, which even makes us “shrivel”, there are no post-credits scenes, but everything indicates that, if the numbers are good (and I doubt they will be since the critics didn't like it and the “people” are divided), we will have a continuation which, I think is valid and I would press “play” without fear of being happy since, even with a horrible outcome, it is good to see actors Cameron Diaz and Jamie Foxx having this incredible chemistry acting together and back in action. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/04/25 Full Review Tanya V Cringe the whole way through. D grade. Didnt bother watching the ending. waste of 2 hours Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 02/03/25 Full Review Read all reviews
