Critics Consensus

It's good to have Diaz and Foxx back, but they deserve a warmer welcome than this rote action-comedy.

Ben Travis Empire Magazine A solid action-comedy that proves just how much we’ve missed Cameron Diaz in the last ten years. Next time don’t leave it so long, eh? Rated: 3/5 Feb 4, 2025 Full Review Jonathan Romney Financial Times Back in Action epitomises the Netflix category of “casual viewing”, ie stuff you can have on in the background while you’re washing up. Rated: 1/5 Feb 4, 2025 Full Review Kristy Puchko Mashable Cameron Diaz and Jamie Foxx team up for an action-comedy designed meticulously for Gen X Jan 30, 2025 Full Review Samantha Schuster Cinéfilo Serial It's not a memorable film, due to its rather classic and formulaic structure, with some predictable moments. But it manages to entertain the viewer with a well-known and charismatic cast, good action scenes, and well-aimed jokes. Doesn't blow the lid off the genre like ['Spy Kids'] did nearly a quarter century ago, but it does offer two hours of good-natured laughter and entertaining-enough intrigue. Maggie P. I have watched this movie twice since it has been released. It very much so gives ‘Spy’ (Melissa McCarthy) vibes as well as ‘The Family Plan’ (Mark Wahlberg). Getting the return of Diaz and Foxx separately was so thrilling, let alone the return of them together. Their chemistry in this picture was nothing short of comedic and genuine excitement. I’m not too sure why some audiences do not have a liking toward this genre of film anymore, as this style is the epitome of what the peak of Action Comedy was and is. It is not meant to be a film where you are strictly given gruesome action scenes, rather it is to give a sense of thrill and wonder paired with a light hearted smile (which it did so very well). I enjoyed every moment of this picture, and would recommend to any group of people, including family audiences. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 08/17/25 Full Review Anne R I love action movies of all kinds but this has a lot moments where I felt embarrassed to be watching it. I turned it off near the end - no point in finishing it. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 08/12/25 Full Review Szwedzio S I don’t know why people these days often hate on movies. Me personally I have enjoyed it and will probably watch it again. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/05/25 Full Review Sabbie R. It’s not bad but the family/pregnancy part is annoying Rated 3 out of 5 stars 08/02/25 Full Review Justin W Fun family action affairs, nice for weekend popcorn event. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 08/01/25 Full Review Jan V Empty and soulless. Foxx and Diaz are always worth a watch, but the rest is just standard Hollywood slop.
