Taylor Baker Drink in the Movies The beauty of the film is it's story, and like the men it's about it's not particularly sleek or new. It's sturdy, reliable, and enough to complete the job. Rated: 77/100 Aug 19, 2021 Full Review Ross Anthony Hollywood Report Card Beautiful cinematography, good music, very well edited, powerful and emotional moments are captured in a respectful artistic way. Rated: 3/4 Jun 23, 2021 Full Review Christian Toto HollywoodInToto.com This impeccably shot, gut-wrenching doc lays bare the enduring legacy of PTSD. Rated: 3.5/4 Jun 17, 2021 Full Review Erik Childress eFilmCritic.com This is an affecting, moving piece of work that is deserving of your attention. Rated: 4/5 Sep 15, 2020 Full Review Phil Guie Film-Forward.com On an aesthetic level, director Brian Morrison's approach is not particularly innovative, but having the subjects discuss directly to the camera the tragedies they are still struggling to process... is undeniably stirring. Rated: 4/5 May 30, 2020 Full Review Dylan Andresen Film Threat Every scene and subject is relevant and as tributary to the whole, which is a film that flows naturally along Jon's travels from east to west. greg r About as perfect as a documentary can be Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member I attended a screening of the film at Arizona State University and it left a powerful impression on me. Most of us go will through our lives never fully grasping the sacrifice our soldiers give for our freedom, not only during their service, but for the rest of their lives. This film makes that point vividly clear. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/27/21 Full Review Audience Member This movie was excellent. The cinematography and music score was perfect as the story related the reality of living with combat related stress. Jon did an excellent job of discussing his personal experiences without trying to sugar coat anything or glorify combat. This is a great movie for anyone who has returned from combat, but may also be especially helpful for those who are close with a combat veteran. This movie does a great job of saying what so many of us have a hard time communicating. I highly recommend this movie. Semper Fi. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/18/23 Full Review Audience Member Captivating documentary that details the personal journey of a Marine's journey after war. Getting to hear these brothers and families of the fallen share memories is extremely moving, to say the least. Plenty of laughter and tears. Jonathan did an incredible job of capturing the highs and lows of his trek. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/12/23 Full Review Audience Member Absolutely moving and eye opening! A must have watch for everyone wanting a glimpse into the lives of our soldiers after they come home and have adjust to everyday life. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/01/23 Full Review Audience Member Knowing Jon in real life, both pre-, during, and post-combat, this movie was the real deal. Brian did an excellent job capturing raw emotion, and allowing people to better understand what Veterans endure, while highlighting both the personal and collective struggles they face. I have seen this struggle firsthand many times, and have felt helpless, at times, when people I care about that have been through combat have expressed suicidal ideation. This movie is so important because it imparts knowledge and brings awareness to a struggle that impacts so many of our servicemembers. It allows a glimpse into the soul of those who were a part of this film and, hopefully, will have a wide reach, touching those viewers struggling with similar issues, and enlightening others who are unaware. No one should ever have to feel that alone. No one should have to feel pain so deep and unrelenting that they lose the will to live. Yet, many do, and lives are lost because of it. Raising awareness and providing resources is crucial. Bastard's Road will, no doubt, play a pivotal role in this endeavor. As for Jon, there are not enough words to express how thrilled I am that he has, and continues to, work through his troubles, found a path forward helping others, has found love, and continues to be here in this life in many different roles - father, brother, son, husband, patriot, and a true friend.
