Stylish and admirably respectful of the source material, Batman: Mask of the Phantasm succeeds where many of the live-action Batman adaptations have failed.

bankrupt_hippo Great storytelling for non superhero and superhero fans alike. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 09/17/22 Full Review Melissa M my son and I enjoyed this movie Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 09/17/22 Full Review saucedood This is still one of the greatest Batman films of all time. The rich narrative and deep characters give Batman: Mask of the Phantasm a distinct feel, even from the already dark television series that it is based on. The visuals cannot be praised enough, and the voicework doubly so. In conclusion, this is not one you want to miss out on. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 04/15/24 Full Review chris a Incredibly smart, does a great job with the source material, and is just dark enough to continue the Batman legacy. It was way ahead of its time. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 04/12/24 Full Review Alysha S BATMAN: MASK OF THE PHANTASM should be mentioned as one of the best Batman films. Yes, right there with THE DARK KNIGHT and THE BATMAN. The story is remarkable, especially for a kids/family film. And the voice acting is, of course, world-class. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 03/30/24 Full Review Alan T Excellent movie! It not only showed how Bruce became Batman, but also showed his personal life before that. Wish it could be a bit longer but the movie still did its job. Jake Cole Slant Magazine The film leans hard into the show’s retro-future aesthetic and doubles down on its fondness for the hard-boiled 1940s detective era that birthed Batman in the first place. Sep 22, 2023 Full Review Charles Solomon Los Angeles Times "Phantasm" looks exactly like what it is: A television program that's been expanded to fill a big screen. But enlarging the characters only makes the flaws in the Saturday-morning-style animation more evident. May 23, 2023 Full Review Pat Gillespie The Age (Australia) [Combines] the flair and humor of the television series with the dark morality and melancholia of the original DC Comics strips. Excellent action sequences and vivid animation that seems to leap off the screen crown this terrific release. May 23, 2023 Full Review Cory Woodroof For the Win (USA Today) It set an impossibly high bar for any animated sequels (or Batman movies in general) to clear. Feb 28, 2024 Full Review Brian Eggert Deep Focus Review Batman: Mask of the Phantasm, embodying the show’s complete and focused creative abilities, plays like a dream for those desiring more from their superheroes. Rated: 4/4 Oct 15, 2023 Full Review Matt Brunson Film Frenzy It’s interesting how the film manages to weave together three plotlines and allow them to finally dovetail in orderly fashion.
