It's been nearly two years since Superman's (Henry Cavill) colossal battle with Zod (Michael Shannon) devastated the city of Metropolis. The loss of life and collateral damage left many feeling angry and helpless, including crime-fighting billionaire Bruce Wayne (Ben Affleck). Convinced that Superman is now a threat to humanity, Batman embarks on a personal vendetta to end his reign on Earth, while the conniving Lex Luthor (Jesse Eisenberg) launches his own crusade against the Man of Steel.

Critics Consensus

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice smothers a potentially powerful story -- and some of America's most iconic superheroes -- in a grim whirlwind of effects-driven action.

Samantha Riedel Bitch Media Let's not make any bones about it - on any scale, Dawn of Justice is painful to watch. Feb 10, 2021 Full Review Matthew Rozsa Salon.com It is without question an important film today, and a quintessential product of the America we inhabit. Rated: 2.5/4 Aug 3, 2017 Full Review Aramide Tinubu Shadow and Act There is much to claw through here, so much so that the audience might easily find themselves exhausted from the overall aggression of the film. However, a lot of the story does work. The action is good, and the emotion feels real most of the time. Apr 12, 2017 Full Review Tania Hussain The Hudsucker With a well-painted influence from the Man of Steel’s darkened hues and dramatic imaging, Batman v Superman is a very naturalistic story with a somber script. Jul 10, 2024 Full Review Brendan Cassidy InSession Film The film was written by both Chris Terrio and David S. Goyer, and their jarring duality is very present. Rated: C- Jun 17, 2024 Full Review Don Shanahan Every Movie Has a Lesson This new franchise has chosen its mature path and they are showing the resolute fortitude to stick with it, haters be damned. Nicholas D bad bad movie way too long Rated 1 out of 5 stars 07/18/23 Full Review Mame D My God! This movie is HARD to watch. So boring Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 09/17/25 Full Review Pip H Absolute trash. Boring. Thank God it's over. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 09/17/25 Full Review Rhenee H The movie is made for huge comic book fans but not for casual film viewers. Maybe that's why some people didn't like it. But as a regular comic book fan I enjoyed the story telling in the movie. It's very cinematic too. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 09/15/25 Full Review Kevin V Yo siento q está a la par de la primera y tiene unos planazos q uffffffff Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 09/14/25 Full Review Cade C. Ehhhh it’s kind of good, hmm not really. This is the sequel to the movie Man Of Steel and it doesn’t live up to the hype. You try learning Bruce Wayne’s story, oh now it’s Superman, it’s all too messy. The main villain is Lex Luther who honestly plays this character well but we don’t get much info from him. It’s also called “Dawn of the Justice League” which makes NO SENCE AT ALL. It shows a small scene with all the Justice League and.. that’s all. Oh wait I forgot this movie is called Batman v Superman. Well when you finally get to the fight it’s already been almost 2 hours so the movies almost over. The fight is kind of cool but only lasts for 3 minutes. Welp now they’re friends at the end of that little tantrum. Now we must fight “Doomsday.” Why? I have no idea. Wonder Woman comes out of nowhere to save us and then Superman realizes to kill the monster he must eliminate himself too. So that happens and it’s honestly pretty sad. I don’t remember what happened to Batman afterward but oh well. This movie in the end is kinda hard to watch. There are some fun moments but not many. Wouldn’t recommend it.
