It's been nearly two years since Superman's (Henry Cavill) colossal battle with Zod (Michael Shannon) devastated the city of Metropolis. The loss of life and collateral damage left many feeling angry and helpless, including crime-fighting billionaire Bruce Wayne (Ben Affleck). Convinced that Superman is now a threat to humanity, Batman embarks on a personal vendetta to end his reign on Earth, while the conniving Lex Luthor (Jesse Eisenberg) launches his own crusade against the Man of Steel.

There is much to claw through here, so much so that the audience might easily find themselves exhausted from the overall aggression of the film. However, a lot of the story does work. The action is good, and the emotion feels real most of the time.

The follow-up to an extraordinary, new gritty take on the DC universe flops tremendously in its second act as it takes Batman into questionable territory as a newly introduced version of the character, while Superman's legacy is needlessly destroyed by every human character in this film. Enjoyable, and still boasting amazing acting from Ben Affleck, Gal Gadot, Amy Adams, and Henry Cavill, but underperforms what it truly could have been with half-baked and boring plotlines.
