It's been nearly two years since Superman's (Henry Cavill) colossal battle with Zod (Michael Shannon) devastated the city of Metropolis. The loss of life and collateral damage left many feeling angry and helpless, including crime-fighting billionaire Bruce Wayne (Ben Affleck). Convinced that Superman is now a threat to humanity, Batman embarks on a personal vendetta to end his reign on Earth, while the conniving Lex Luthor (Jesse Eisenberg) launches his own crusade against the Man of Steel.

Critics Consensus

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice smothers a potentially powerful story -- and some of America's most iconic superheroes -- in a grim whirlwind of effects-driven action.

Let's not make any bones about it - on any scale, Dawn of Justice is painful to watch. Go to Full Review

It is without question an important film today, and a quintessential product of the America we inhabit. Go to Full Review

There is much to claw through here, so much so that the audience might easily find themselves exhausted from the overall aggression of the film. However, a lot of the story does work. The action is good, and the emotion feels real most of the time. Go to Full Review

With a well-painted influence from the Man of Steel’s darkened hues and dramatic imaging, Batman v Superman is a very naturalistic story with a somber script. Go to Full Review

The film was written by both Chris Terrio and David S. Goyer, and their jarring duality is very present. Go to Full Review

Nicholas D 07/18/2023 bad bad movie way too long See more Slim s 2h This movie is a bit of a mess because there's no constructive plot on it. I mean I don't think is bad or whatever but it could've been a better movie that we got. So let's start with the good, I think Ben Affleck was good as Batman in this movie, of course he was fantastic as Bruce Wayne but Batman was a badass, he didn't give a fuck about himself and he believes that superman is an alien that wants to take the world by himself, Henry Cavill was good as Superman and Gal Gadot was good as Wonder Woman, the fights on this thing amazing, I think Zack Snyder has great CGI in this movie the fight between Batman and Superman was brutal and the Warehouse fight and Doomsday fight we're absolute fucking peak cinema. but the bad things on this were the 1st half of the movie was bland and lex luthor was ass in this movie. Overall is not a bad movie to watch and it has definitely aged a little bit poorly. C+ My rating See more Parsa P @Iampalipz 2d Batman v Superman: Ultimate Edition is a clearer and more cohesive film, restoring the political tension and narrative logic missing from the theatrical cut. Snyder frames Batman and Superman as opposing responses to unchecked power, but the film occasionally overloads itself—especially with the Africa incident, which feels unnecessarily complex and distracts from a stronger, more natural source of conflict: the world’s distrust after the destruction of Metropolis in Man of Steel. The added scenes repair Superman’s motives and strengthen the investigative thread, giving the story more emotional weight. Affleck’s brutal, weary Batman and Cavill’s conflicted Superman anchor the film, even as the somber tone and CGI-heavy finale remain divisive. Despite flaws, it’s an ambitious, thought-provoking entry. Score: 3.5/5 See more Nov 28 An absolute disappointment from start to finish: a predictable and flimsy story with twists that couldn't have been more stupid! I still regret buying a ticket to see it! See more Martrel J Nov 26 Awesome but could be better See more Paul M Nov 24 It was just as phenomenal as it's predecessor Man of Steel. See more Read all reviews
