Dion S A 1987 film I somehow missed as a kid. I just watched it, this Halloween, and this is a classic 80s made-for-TV movie. First of all, it's a who's-who-can-you-name-the-actors of the 80s. It begins with the cheesie jazzie intro music and a smiling lady high on life... Ahhh! The couple buys a house on an island (no, nothing wrong can happen here). Enter in (a very young) Woody Harrelson and Barbara Billingsley (Mrs Cleaver? Is she a...?) It's a slow-burner, slightly Gothic, with a dog acting strange, a strange old man in the attic and a creepy little girl and boy in a sailor's outfit with a dead bird (I hate creepy kids). TV didn't have much budget back then, so we expect cheap. We didn't have CGI, but we did have heavy censorship, so like this movie, it's a horror movie that relies on the mystery and suspense. And creepy kids, freak accidents, dead animals, sad moments (Did they just kill...?) and cheap scares. If you know what to expect, this is classic! Bay Cove and Eyes of the Demon) is a made for TV thriller/horror movie with a decent script and an interesting (if slow moving) story. The low budget of the film shows, with some of the sets looking not very convincing at all (particularly the cemetery) and the story isn't really bringing anything new to the genre of "cult vs. regular person" but it's a decent film that will appeal to people that want a horror film that doesn't include teenagers being decapitated or a lot of real scares. (VHS, October 5, 2012) Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/08/23 Full Review Audience Member A real piece of garbage, Bay Cove--you can get the plot of the film if you add an "N" to the end of Cove--that thoroughly disappoints despite its intriguing cast list. Bay Cove might be good for a few laughs, but it is good for little else. Badly filmed, poorly acted, and about as a scary as someone with a sheet over their head, the film lacks anything to recommend it. It feels like a horror film made with the standards of a Lifetime movie of the week or an episode of Days of our Lives. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 01/27/23 Full Review Audience Member Saw this a long time ago on TV Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/18/23 Full Review Audience Member It's supposed to be a horror flick but it's pretty badly put together, you can watch it for a good laugh. For that, it gets two extra stars from me. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/07/23 Full Review Read all reviews
