When their boat is sunk while crossing the Timor Sea during World War II, a young troop of Australian soldiers must find a way to survive the harsh seas on a quickly shrinking life raft. Hundreds of miles from anywhere, they must confront interpersonal conflicts, enemy attacks, and the advances of one very large, very hungry great white shark. From Kiah Roache-Turner, director of Wyrmwood and Sting, comes this uniquely terrifying tale.

Rated: 3.5/5 Oct 10, 2025 Full Review Jake Wilson Sydney Morning Herald It’s a good B-movie plot, and Beast of War is best described as a good B-movie. Rated: 3/5 Oct 9, 2025 Full Review Vicky Lawrence Starburst It doesn’t reinvent the wheel and it lacks scares, but it proves to be an enjoyable watch and really throws you into a world of tension. Rated: 4/5 Oct 14, 2025 Full Review Rebecca Sayce FILMHOUNDS Magazine Despite being the latest in a long line of sharksploitation films, Beast Of War successfully turns the subgenre on its head with a full-throttle narrative packed full of blood-pumping moments, giving plenty for audiences to sink their teeth into. Rated: 4/5 Oct 14, 2025 Full Review Joshua Ryan Sunshine State Cineplex The creature design is impressive, and the shark is a genuinely terrifying piece of practical effects work. But there is a lack of menace and peril in its stalking of the stranded soldiers. Rated: 5/10 Oct 14, 2025 Full Review Read all reviews

Cemi H Another great Australian movie! Great acting and the story live will live you on the edge throughout the movie. Something about Australian movies that I find way more engaging than American. Highly recommend💯💯💯 Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/20/25 Full Review Les N Not bad. It is an Aussie film after all. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 10/16/25 Full Review C V Sharks movies should always use practical effects like this. It's unfortunate that the writing doesn't really live up to the shark itself. The characters are 2-dimensional caricatures of real people, and honestly take up too much of the film. The only thing remotely fun about the movie is the shark itself, and even then I don't know if it's utilized to its full extent. A lot of the interesting/fun things about this movie are in its production, not in the movie itself. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 10/15/25 Full Review Cavanşir G I really dug into Beast of War and felt that raw edge of wartime fear right from the boot camp scenes, where the young soldiers' nerves and sweat made their vulnerability hit home hard—it captured that post-enlistment haze so authentically, leaving me tense and empathetic. The survival kicks in brutally after the ship sinks, blending WWII peril with heart-pounding shark attacks that had me gripping my seat, thrilled by the desperate raft fights and oceanic dread. Sure, the ending felt too predictable and cliched, pulling me out of the immersion a bit, but overall, I see it as a solid, rewatchable gem that nails gritty horror with heart—7/10 for keeping me hooked on those primal stakes. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 10/14/25 Full Review Luke R Beast of War surprised me, in the best possible way. I went in expecting an Aussie-themed creature feature, but what I got was a gritty, tension-filled war film with unexpected depth. The suspense is palpable and the dark humor hits just right. It’s not a polished blockbuster, but that rawness gives it a sense of authenticity that works. I really enjoyed it. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 10/13/25 Full Review Neil W Much better than average 'shark movie'. Acting was excellent and overall great effort.
