Suffice it to say that Belzebuth finds a way to take the well-trodden path of the possession film and make it unique. Go to Full Review

Belzebuth is a needle in that haystack. Remember the title and see it when you have the chance. Go to Full Review

Thanks to some skillful scares and a few points of originality, this is a chilling enough affair to strike fear in the hearts of the easier-to-frighten. Go to Full Review

A pretty good horror movie, in Spanish and English, although it's got almost zero sense of humor. Go to Full Review

Belzebuth is a captivating dissection of faith, loss, and death that is hard to shake even after the credits roll. Go to Full Review

Some of the scenes in this film are very effective and much more so than just jump scares, it's a film that one must get invested in to get the most out of it. Go to Full Review

Vince S Sep 1 Enjoyed very much. Good story. See more James H @jamesmatt Jul 30 Like one reviewer states, this serves up surprising originality from a sub genre that had seemed out of tricks. About 20 minutes into it, I said, wow, I think this is going to be a real horror film. And sure enough, it was thoughtful, scary, and provocative. More than worth dealing with the subtitles. See more Claudio C Apr 16 Belzebuth (2017) The Next Messiah (11,618 – 16 Apr 2025 – by Claudio Carvalho) In Mexico, the Federal Police Lieutenant Emmanuel Ritter (Joaquín Cosio) and his wife Marina (Aurora Gil) are happy with the birth of their baby son. Ritter receives a phone call from his boss Najera and leave Marina alone in the room while a nurse takes the baby to the nursery. Another nurse goes haywire and stabs all the babies in the nursery with a scalpel and then she slits her throat. Five years later, Ritter is a widow since Marina committed suicide and misses his family. Out of the blue, he is called to go to a elementary school, where a boy has just killed thirty-three people, most of them children, before taken his own life. Soon a janitor electrifies a swimming pool, killing the lifeguard and several children. While investigating the massacre with his partner Demetrio (Jose Sefami), the skeptical Ritter receives the paranormal investigator Ivan Franco (Tate Ellington) and his team, and he learns that the excommunicated priest Vasilio Canetti (Tobin Bell) was present in all the massacres. When the priest kidnaps a boy, saving his life from an explosion, Ritter, Ivan and Demetrio look for the priest and learn that an evil demon is possessing people to kill him since the boy is the next Messiah. “Belzebuth” (2017) is an interesting Mexican feature about the battle between the good and the evil to protect and to kill the next Messiah. The beginning is creepy, with the nurse stabbing the newborns. Her performance is amazing although participating only a few minutes, with one of the most dreadful scenes in a horror film. Unfortunately, Joaquín Cosio is a strange man performing an obnoxious character. The plot is engaging and the reason for the massacres are well-explained. This film is really worthwhile watching for fans of horror. My vote is seven. Must see! See more Eddie O @Eddieratesmovies 10/26/2024 Good movie I changed my review. See more Rocio G 08/14/2024 Extremely creative interpretation of the messiah-antichrist story. Lots of suspense, and you are never really sure who is the real bad guy. I would love to see a sequel where the child messiah continues to grow and discover his destiny despite continuing demonic attacks. See more Read all reviews
