Audience Member Charlie Chaplin’s character The Tramp is a great many things. A pauper, a lover, a fighter, and a gentleman just to name a few. In the case of the 1914 Keystone classic “Between Showers” he is a masher, trying desperately to win the affections of a pretty woman. Not taking no for an answer. Throw in a rival masher, the cops, rain puddles, and a stolen umbrella, and you have yourself a recipe for hilarity that is guaranteed to tickle your funny-bone. With a runtime of about 15 minutes, this is one of those early Chaplin classics that is definitely worth the watch. It is brilliant, fast paced a outrageously funny. All of the actors work really well off of each other which is a must for comedy. Especially such comedies that are befitting of a keystone picture. Chaplin and Sterling bring such amazing physicality to their roles that you can help but laugh and wonder how they haven’t managed to hurt themselves in the process of making this gem. Bottom line, this is a very well made silent Short starring such amazing talent. You definitely will not be disappointed. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/21/20 Full Review Audience Member It has kind of an interesting concept. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/26/23 Full Review Audience Member good silent comedy and chaplin vehicle Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/21/23 Full Review Audience Member The term 'a masher' - addressed to the tramp - amused me. This is the first time the tramp comes up against a bully whilst trying to charm a lady; he would follow this formula many other times to ever greater effect. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/04/23 Full Review Audience Member In this silent short, Charlie and Ford Sterling's character both chase after the same girl and trouble transcends upon them as a policeman gets involved. Another one of Charlie's crude shorts. It's age is something that requires leniency, as the same can be said for nearly all his Keystone shorts. There's really nothing about this short that will interest modern audiences, but it's not a bad film. Like I said, the film's age wavers the film away, and makes it difficult to appreciate. It's a moderately enjoyable film, despite being not very funny or interesting. It's still worth a watch for any Chaplin enthusiast and it's only 10 minutes long so it's not really a waste of time. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/28/23 Full Review Audience Member Another 1914-short of Chaplin's. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/17/23 Full Review Read all reviews
