Wendy Ide The Times (UK) Much of the film’s appeal stems from the sizzling energy and sharp dialogue, a lot of which was improvised on the spot by Murphy. Nov 20, 2023 Full Review Kirk Ellis The Hollywood Reporter This lickety-split action comedy is distinguished by the wry, character-conscious direction of Martin Brest, who coaxes a silver-bullet performance from star Eddie Murphy that's practically criminal in its accuracy. Dec 5, 2016 Full Review Chris Nashawaty Entertainment Weekly Rated: B May 12, 2011 Full Review Simon Gallagher Screen Rant Released early in Eddie Murphy's career, Beverly Hills Cop is still the best example of exactly why his star rose so quickly. Rated: 4.5/5 Sep 13, 2024 Full Review Rudie Obias Battle Royale With Cheese If Beverly Hills Cop was made in 2024, it would take 45 minutes before Foley gets to California. The storytelling and the way it unfolds is so economical that it’s surprising that filmmakers don’t make movies like this nowadays... Aug 9, 2024 Full Review Daniel Rester Battle Royale With Cheese Beverly Hills Cop is a classic buddy cop comedy. It is essential viewing for anyone exploring Murphy’s career. The sequels, including the new one, never quite hit the highs of Brest’s original 1984 film. Aug 9, 2024 Full Review Read all reviews

BRizz 2 I recently watched the original Beverly Hills Cop starring Eddie Murphy, and I have to say—it was absolutely fantastic. The film strikes a perfect balance of goofy, funny, and creative, delivering an all-over-the-place vibe that somehow works brilliantly. Eddie Murphy brings his signature charm and comedic energy, clearly playing off his own strengths and keeping the character lively throughout. His antics add a spontaneity that keeps both the audience and the production on their toes. The movie occasionally feels politically incorrect by today’s standards and has some odd directorial choices, but that only adds to its unique charm. It’s a wild ride that’s fun and unpredictable, making it an entertaining watch no matter how you approach it. Overall, Beverly Hills Cop remains a classic for good reason—full of laughs, memorable moments, and that 80s spirit. Highly recommended. It is such a good movie. It has drama, action, comedy and tense moments that put you on the edge of your seat. The acting is grade A and the story is simple but effective. Characters are developed in the short time we have to get used to them, and you care about them. Imo, it’s EddieMurphy’s finest performance and i wish he got more attention for it. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 06/02/25 Full Review Dave B Love this movie! Comedy and action both right up there and Murphy at his very best! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 05/24/25 Full Review John D I watched Beverly Hills Cop with high expectations. I was let down. I thought it was gonna be pretty funny since one of the movie’s genres is comedy, but I didn’t find it very humorous. Overall it was a great movie though, worth a watch. Was it the best movie ever though? Absolutely not. But I still heavily recommend the movie. I will definitely be watching the other movies!
