Namrata Joshi Outlook The scenes unfold slowly and deliberately, there are long tracks of complete silence and minimal use of dialogue that together create an uncanny mood. Rated: 3/4 Jan 4, 2019 Full Review Anita Gates New York Times An intriguing if awkward Hindi horror movie. Rated: 3/5 Jun 3, 2003 Full Review V.A. Musetto New York Post The movie belongs to Bollywood sex symbol Urmila Matondkar, who is terrific as the possessed wife. Rated: 3/4 Jun 3, 2003 Full Review Sankhayan Ghosh Film Companion No other city gives off this sense of isolation as strongly as Mumbai, where each apartment is an island. Varma's signature low-angle camera works well with the spatial angularity of the flat... Oct 30, 2020 Full Review Steve Dread Central Bhoot could have easily taken its place among some of the better horror films out there. Rated: 3/5 Feb 1, 2006 Full Review Maitland McDonagh TV Guide Though at two hours this non-musical supernatural tale is considerably shorter than most mainstream Indian films, it's still slow going, padded with long shots of the troubled apartment building underscored by a soundtrack full of moans and screams. Audience Member An amateurish film that relies only on jump scares. The lead actress is annoying as hell, as are the other characters. Terrible acting and very slow moving. Don't waste your time. I didn't even make it halfway through the film. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 01/22/23 Full Review Audience Member For a Bollywood entry into horror, I give it a fair nod of approval. There's some slick shots and nifty ideas, but it gets less terrifying the longer it goes. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/19/23 Full Review Audience Member One of the few Hindi horror movies I liked...not badly done! Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/29/23 Full Review Audience Member there are only few times when Ram Gopal Varma clicks ,this was one of those times Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/26/23 Full Review Audience Member This movie marks the pinnacle of Urmila's acting career - where she totally rocked role as the possessed housewife !! Additionally it was one of the last good RGV flicks ... as since then it has been a downhill road for him too !!! Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/14/23 Full Review Audience Member Lots of atmosphere and good suspense with intentionally deliberate pacing, not something you see that often any more. This has some pretty decent scares with ghosts, menacing personnel, and a good depiction of possession. Urmila Matondkar seems genuinely tormented, but reins it in enough to maintain the premise. It's too bad this was not more popular. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/26/23 Full Review Read all reviews
