Eddie Harrison film-authority.com ...something of a mess, never marrying the 1980’s story with the First Would War action. But director John Hough really knew how to stage action, and the helicopter vs biplane scenarios are physically impressive... Rated: 2/5 Jan 23, 2024 Full Review Read all reviews

David W A strange genre mash up that never really feels like its working quite as it should but has an affable, likeable quality that forgives many of its flaws. Whilst it's tonally quite uneven and the quality of acting is 'variable', to say the least, I certainly didn't hate this but then I did find it's rough edges a bit too noticable. Neil Dickson to his credit makes a good, stiff upper lip, Biggles and the film is at its best when either he or of course the great Peter Cushing is on screen. Notable mainly for its aerial cinematography and as the last film the all time horror legend Peter Cushing would star in. It felt strangely dated even on its release, with the special effects being on the poor side even then and the music used feeling weirdly out of place. Ironically, time largely hasn't been kind to it, with its slightly homespun feeling production shortcomings now being even more evident. Its a more than decent Sunday afternoon, boys own, action adventure though that kids and the young at heart will get the most from. Given the great premise this time travel romp should really have been better, although it undeniably does have some redeeming moments... Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/25/24 Full Review Audience Member Such a strange film. In the ways that count, this film fails all the way. It has such a fun concept yet manages to make none of the story matter and every character as 2-dimensional as the last. What makes this movie interesting though is the history behind it. The classic (90+ entries) Biggles dime novel series--a classic in Britain--forced down an "American time travel" route to compete with Back to the Future. None of it works, especially if you consider the time travel, but it is an oddity worth puzzling over. Also, the effects and stunts are phenomenal. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/28/23 Full Review Audience Member This is the store of a Ad executive who is transported but in time to world war 1 where he has to help Biggles a war hero and pilot. The two must band together to stop the bad guys. I must admit I had never heard of this film until recently and now I can see why it wasn't very good had some interesting ideas but was poorly executed. It another example of a bad 80's movie that just didn't work. The acting is questionable and the writing is much the same. They never really explain how the time travel rally works they just put it down to what they call a "Time Travel Twin". It really felt like a pilot to a TV series that never got made. If you like a mindless actionish film then you may enjoy this. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/19/23 Full Review Audience Member Thoroughly average in every way, and lacking a clear vision, 'Biggles' is an obvious and lazy fusion of Indiana Jones and Back To The Future that can't make up its mind on who it's made for. Best part is the aerial combat and cinematography. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/01/23 Full Review Audience Member Adventurous, but never gets too exciting. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/06/23 Full Review Audience Member Dated, completely unbelievable and daft as a brush. Kind of works on some incredulous level, providing you have nothing else to do.
