Brent McKnight The Last Thing I See A cynical, almost callously realistic, meditation on defeat and what it means to win or lose, and the lingering effects of ideals and politics in war, even after the war has supposedly come to a conclusion. Rated: B Jul 11, 2020 Full Review Blake Griffin We Got This Covered Black Bread is one of SFIFF's more understated films, despite a few fairly grotesque moments. It has some interesting camerawork, solid performances and an intriguing story, all of which make this one worth a watch. Rated: 8/10 Nov 11, 2013 Full Review Sarah Cronin Electric Sheep While history is important to the narrative, the director cleverly subverts the audience's expectations, slowly revealing a much more nuanced and layered film, with a disturbing mystery at its core. Audience Member Average spanish civil war flick. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/09/23 Full Review Audience Member A different story in the after times of the Spanish Civil War. Cleverly, it mixes a thriller with the destruction of the naïve childhood of the main character. Who is good and who is bad, who is true and who lies is unclear as the events that lead to the current situation. A must to see in nowadays Spanish film making. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/03/23 Full Review Audience Member A young boy witnesses a horrific crash that kills his friend and his friend's father and he discovers some unpleasant secrets surrounding his parents and the townspeople. This is a very old-fashioned film that sort of reminds me of the sort of period European films that usually win Oscars during the 70's, 80's and 90's. That's not to say that's it's bad film. It's pretty good. But it feels very been-there-done-that and I've seen films of the same vein that are a lot better. However, it's worth watching for the wonderful central performance of Francesc Colomer as the boy. I love the imageries particularly the birds and the bread. The denial is horrifying to me and heartbreaking. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/26/23 Full Review Read all reviews
