Time Out It all gets off to a cracking start, only to dwindle very rapidly into thin and predictable variations on the formulaic ploys. Jun 24, 2006 Full Review Vincent Canby New York Times Like a stolen car, it moves pretty fast, if erratically. Rated: 3/5 May 20, 2003 Full Review Dave Kehr Chicago Reader Cokliss's direction strains for a stylishness it doesn't achieve, yet his fundamentally straightforward style brings out the abstract design of the plot. Jan 1, 2000 Full Review Eddie Harrison film-authority.com ...As a Saturday night time-passer, there’s lots to enjoy here, with on-the-cusp stars, well-filmed street-level car chase action, Bubba Smith from Police Academy, plus cameos from Keenan Wynn and Richard Jackael... Rated: 3/5 Jan 11, 2024 Full Review David Nusair Reel Film Reviews ...generally far more engaging and compelling than one might've anticipated... Rated: 3/4 Jul 29, 2020 Full Review Ed Travis Cinapse It's probably never much more than the sum of its curious parts, but ultimately does result in an enjoyable ride. Ryan B This movie delivers what most movies do not: it delivers a great story, enshrined in love, action, and uniqueness. Its score (music) has a sound that you would expect from a sigma-but-is-truly-just-retro-like. It delivers. The scene where Nina drives the car onwards, not-backing-down, was amazing; and so was the concussive driving, and the rolling and flying- back bodies after being shot or run-over. And also Tommy Lee Jones and others deliver - satisfying performances, immersing you into the story - because it does not feel forced or unreal. This is something to admire and utilise to make better movies today - because it is - a delivery we need. Thank you for this movie, to the director, the writer, the production team, the actors, and all the others that made it happen. R CB Bruce Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/01/24 Full Review Nooway N An old classic, even if some parts feels a little bit outdated. Tommy Lee Jones always quite good though. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 11/25/23 Full Review Monsol E I was hoping this was going to be a bit more speed-centric, considering it's about a supercar, but instead I got a pretty fun 80s heist flick! TLJ's character is hired to steal some incriminating evidence to bring down a corrupt company, but when it goes south, he hides the stolen intel in a passing showcar...which quickly gets stolen by the city's surprisingly high-scale, well funded, armed, and organized car theft syndicate...he then has to steal the car back to retrieve his intel, all while dealing with a rival from his past, and a new love interest There's not a lot of nuance or character to analyze here, but it was just about everything you'd want out of an action flick of the time. The car and what it could do were insane, there was a lot of fights/shootouts, and the movie ended in an absurd stunt, and a long two-man punchout, that several people could have stopped at any time, but didn't...and of course Hamilton was lovely, and TLJ was at peak sass, as usual. It's a pretty great watch for 80s action buffs! Rated 4 out of 5 stars 10/27/23 Full Review A.L.Jude P Love every second of this movie. It really did not cross the reality threshold and staid real to the end. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 08/11/23 Full Review Audience Member good for it's time ! Rated 4 out of 5 stars 04/30/22 Full Review Audience Member Most of the reviews seem a little harsh in my opinion considering this movie was made 30 years ago.
