Joy Gould Boyum Wall Street Journal The film almost loses sight of poor Blume and turns into a social satire. As such, however, it fails to expose very much or to take a very clear stand toward the social trends it dramatizes. Aug 10, 2022 Full Review Myron Meisel Chicago Reader Comedy in the best sense. Aug 1, 2021 Full Review Rex Reed New York Daily News The movie drones on and on, wandering all over the place like a grounded bat with tunnel vision. Aug 1, 2021 Full Review Russell Davies Observer (UK) Nice performances from both friendly, rueful Segal and the superbly bony Miss Anspach do not lift the film much above standard California satire... But the incidental pleasures are unusual. Sep 27, 2023 Full Review Michael Billington Birmingham Post The jokes themselves come thick and fast. Underneath its surface wryness the film communicates a genuine sense of loss and of the agony of unrequited love. Sep 27, 2023 Full Review John Huddy Miami Herald "Blume in Love" will become one of those very personal movies greatly admired by a minority and roundly scorned by most others. georgan g What a stupid plot. And he rapes her so she goes back to him once pregnant? Don't waste your time on this "comedy." Rated 1 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member If raping your ex-wife and laughing about it with her new boyfriend is your thing, have at it. Great writing, but it is so unbelievably misogynistic that it should come with comments regarding a new era of mankind's awareness about abuse. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/27/23 Full Review Audience Member Perfect pairing of actor and director - Segal is hilarious in one of the best performances of his career and Mazursky improves upon Bob & Carol & Ted & Alice. An underrated, fantastic comedy - this film should be discussed far more often as one of the true classics of the 1970s New Hollywood and it is a shame that Segal and Mazursky didn't work together again after this. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/15/23 Full Review s r I gave it a shot, but it was not good. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member The best comedy romance movie ever made! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/26/23 Full Review ashley h Blume is a disappointing film. It is about a divorcé who decides that his ex-wife is the love of his life. George Segal and Susan Anspach give terrible performances. The script is badly written. Paul Mazursky did a horrible job directing this movie. I was not impressed with this motion picture.
