While there, a stranger convinces one of the students to play a seemingly harmless game of truth or dare with the others. Once the game starts, it awakens something evil -- a demon which forces the friends to share dark secrets and confront their deepest fears. The rules are simple but wicked -- tell the truth or die, do the dare or die, and if you stop playing, you die.

Critics Consensus

Truth or Dare's slick presentation isn't enough to make this mediocre horror outing much more frightening than an average round of the real-life game.

They die in fairly routine accidents that make you long for the slapstick ingenuity of the Final Destination franchise, still a high-water mark in teen-elimination films. Go to Full Review

There are some sloppy rules and failed emotional beats, but if you're a genre fan watching Truth or Dare for the clever concept and inventive kill scenes, there's some fun to be had with this Blumhouse release. Go to Full Review

It does not represent great entertainment, but it is enjoyable more often than it is not. As such it comes with my very modest recommendation. Go to Full Review

The big problem of the film is its lack of corrosive mood or the slightest destabilizing element. [Full Review in Spanish] Go to Full Review

Truth or Dare is a supernatural horror/thriller about a group of teen friends who find that the game they played while on break has followed them home and trapped them into playing with fatal stakes. Watch it if you've already seen everything else. Go to Full Review

Wasted funds Dec 28 Can’t believe I wasted monry seeing this. Was a terrible movie! See more Harry H. @Movies10 Oct 24 Eh it was stupid but hey I wasn't bored watching it See more Ramon V Oct 22 I don't think the movie Truth or Dare has anything incredibly interesting or new, but I also don't think it's bad. It kept me entertained the whole time and at no point did I find it boring. It felt consistent enough to warrant a middle-range rating; it never raises high expectations but there aren't any disappointing moments either. I also don't think it has a high or exaggerated level of violence, which I consider a positive for this film. After watching it I checked the ratings it's received and I think it's another example of why you shouldn't automatically rule out a movie just because it has a lot of bad reviews; I think Truth or Dare is being punished in that regard, or maybe I'm not considering things that other people are. I'd recommend it to people who want to watch a light horror film in the "teen horror" subgenre, which in my opinion competes well with other movies of the same style. See more Claudio C Jul 3 Truth or Dare (2018) Another Movie with a Silly Curse (11,802 – 06 Jul 2018 / 02 Jul 2025 – by Claudio Carvalho) In the summer vacation, Olivia Barron (Lucy Hale) reluctantly travels to Mexico with her friends Markie Cameron (Violett Beane), who is her best friend, Lucas Moreno (Tyler Posey), Brad Chang (Hayden Szeto), Penelope Amari (Sophia Ali) and Tyson Curran (Nolan Gerard Funk). They have a good time and in the eve of their return. Olivia meets Carter (Landon Liboiron) at a bar, who woos her and protects Olivia from the harassment of her annoying acquaintance Ronald “Ronnie” Wakowski (Sam Lerner). When the bar closes, Carter invites Olivia and her friends to go to a nearby mission to drink beer. Later, he asks them to play “truth or dare”. When they return to the United States, they learn that they are cursed by a demon that will challenge then to play the game, and if they lie or do not accomplish the dare, they will die. “Truth or Dare” (2018) is another movie with a silly curse directed by Jeff Wadlow. I believe any mediocre writer can buy unoriginal and laughable storylines like "Truth or Dare" with dots to be filled in accordance with the wished situation. “A group of __ friends go to ___ and they bring a curse ______ with them. Along the story, ___ will die while the survivors try to find a way to break the curse. Question: will they succeed? (Y) or (No). In case of no, there will be an annex with cliffhangers for the sequel. The End.” The storyline of "Truth or Dare" is exactly the same as described above, filling the dots with: 6 - Mexico - of Truth and Dare - 3 - (No). However, many viewers seem to have liked this film. My vote is three. Title (Brazil): "Verdade ou Desafio" ("Truth or Dare") My Blog: https://maniacosporfilme.wordpress.com/ See more Read all reviews
