Olivia, Lucas and a group of their college friends travel to Mexico for one last getaway before graduation. While there, a stranger convinces one of the students to play a seemingly harmless game of truth or dare with the others. Once the game starts, it awakens something evil -- a demon which forces the friends to share dark secrets and confront their deepest fears. The rules are simple but wicked -- tell the truth or die, do the dare or die, and if you stop playing, you die.

Critics Consensus

Truth or Dare's slick presentation isn't enough to make this mediocre horror outing much more frightening than an average round of the real-life game.

J. R. Jones Chicago Reader They die in fairly routine accidents that make you long for the slapstick ingenuity of the Final Destination franchise, still a high-water mark in teen-elimination films. Mar 10, 2020 Full Review Anupama Chopra Film Companion What could have been twisted and juicy is just a crashing bore. Rated: 1/5 Aug 28, 2018 Full Review Perri Nemiroff Collider Video There are some sloppy rules and failed emotional beats, but if you're a genre fan watching Truth or Dare for the clever concept and inventive kill scenes, there's some fun to be had with this Blumhouse release. Rated: 6/10 Apr 25, 2018 Full Review John Tones Espinof The big problem of the film is its lack of corrosive mood or the slightest destabilizing element. [Full Review in Spanish] Rated: 2/5 Jun 14, 2021 Full Review Alix Turner Ready Steady Cut Truth or Dare is a supernatural horror/thriller about a group of teen friends who find that the game they played while on break has followed them home and trapped them into playing with fatal stakes. Watch it if you've already seen everything else. Rated: 2.5/5 Jan 31, 2021 Full Review Jordy Sirkin Jordy Reviews It This film is just as bland and inept as a SYFY original, despite its bigger budget and the Blumhouse stamp of approval. Lawrence C A dumb premise that leads to bloodless series of embarrassingly bad non-events. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 11/04/24 Full Review Amanda G I thought it was a fun, stupid movie. I kind of liked the ending, contrary to many others. I thought it was a cute callback to her lying about killing her friends to save the population of Mexico. I couldn't get past the absolutely ridiculous screenwriting. I get that it's campy, but for some of these kids' best friends' horrific deaths there were almost zero reaction. Oh whoops Penelope got shot. Lol. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 10/29/24 Full Review Dave C It's a riff on all of the teen slasher-horror franchises that have come before it, with a twist of Smile and a pinch of inspiration from the myriad demonic possession movies we've all seen. This is a clichéd, easy-to-predict movie, but it is also as fun and enjoyable as the franchises we all secretly (or proudly) enjoyed when we were younger Rated 3 out of 5 stars 10/28/24 Full Review Spike D Every time a new gurning horror befalls a character, you can't help but be relieved that there's one less one-dimensional bore to think about. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 10/26/24 Full Review D K This movie was halfway decent for teenage campy horrors but mailed it in terribly at the end. I don't see how anyone can be anything other than a troll complementing that final wreck. It wasn't even gloriously awful. It was just a lethargic, half-hearted FU to the audience. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 10/14/24 Full Review Audience Member Garbage movie. Nothing good about it. Unrealistic. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 09/15/24 Full Review Read all reviews
