Critics Consensus

Book Club only intermittently rises to the level of its impressive veteran cast; fortunately, they're more than enough to bring pedestrian material entertainingly to life.

Andrea Gronvall Chicago Reader Stale jokes and cringe-inducing sight gags punctuate this creaky romantic comedy. Mar 16, 2020 Full Review Sandra Hall Sydney Morning Herald There's a great sense of camaraderie in it all but it could have been so much better with a script that rejected the obvious. Rated: 2.5/5 Sep 14, 2018 Full Review Wenlei Ma News.com.au To have four female actors of this calibre in the one place and not give them something less mediocre is a lost opportunity. Rated: 2/5 Sep 8, 2018 Full Review Maxance Vincent InSession Film The result is a rather dull and monotonous affair that shouldn’t have been made. Rated: D Mar 6, 2024 Full Review Don Shanahan Every Movie Has a Lesson To some Book Club will be inane and superfluous. To those with appreciative tastes for the talent involved, they will find satisfying enjoyment in watching these women shine as they do best. Rated: 3/5 Feb 16, 2024 Full Review M.N. Miller Ready Steady Cut Book Club made me want to give up reading altogether. Rated: 1.5/5 Aug 16, 2022 Full Review Read all reviews

Susan fantastic and funny movie Rated 5 out of 5 stars 05/20/23 Full Review Brenda The movie had great comedy and a a story to tell. Great actors! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 05/14/23 Full Review Katie D laugh out loud funny, beyond the trailer. I was laughing out loud, to the point of almost crying at times. Diane Keaton's physical comedy were the best parts! I was glad that there were many funny scenes beyond what was in the trailers. I did catch at least one continuity error, but I'll let it go. I just wish I had seen it in one of the theaters that serve wine... Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/15/21 Full Review Audience Member Feel good sweet movie to sit back and relax with. Not quite on par with something as enchanting as Father of the Bride in the same genre, but we get so few of these sorts of nice movies nowadays. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/22/25 Full Review Exene S Sappy, formulaic, predictable, and embarrassingly below all involved in the all star cast. How many more "funny" old lady cliches could they cram into this thing? Yes, of course all older women drink gallons of wine whenever they sit around drooling over badly written mommy porn with their book club buddies. And yes, I believe uber wealthy Andy Garcia's character is sadly sitting around twiddling his thumbs in his mansion waiting for Diane Keaton's character (who IRL is 11 years older than he is) to catch a clue after dumping him and come back to fulfill his empty, meaningless existence. Have you ever seen a rich guy at a loss for female companionship and practically begging for commitment? Let's ask Bill Belichick, 72, who is dating a 24-year-old ex-cheerleader or maybe we should dig up ol' Hugh Hefner and ask him how many older women he sat around in his mansion pining over? Nope, didn't happen. His last wife was 60 years his junior. Come on Hollywood. AI could write more believable scripts than this, and probably has! Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 03/18/25 Full Review alan g Any modern movie with Diane Ketones and Hanoi Jane is a bust. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 03/12/25 Full Review Read all reviews
