Beth M Fantastic approach to a difficult topic. Super indi and that is something the Australians do very well. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/11/24 Full Review Horror G A brave movie depicting the genuine struggles in today's society. A must see. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/06/24 Full Review Alan G It is a relentless barrage that at times feels like an assault on the scenes. This movie doesn't play games. It will take you on a painful ride keeping you asking questions the whole time. The look pays tribute to horror movies of the early 2000s, keeping just enough in the frame and leaving the rest to our imagination. Slow burn, strong finish. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/05/24 Full Review Simone G Crazy film. No it's not for everyone but I loved it. Once you start it you will watch it until the end. This is a stressful movie and knows how to tell a story. It asks more questions than it answers, this is a film for film makers. This is a true indi film and I ope to see more. Not to spoil anything but it is a happy ending. I would love to see a sequel or even a series come out. Fantastic viewing. Highly recommended. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/05/24 Full Review Dela S To be honest I didn't know what to expect from this film. From the start you could tell this was a film for film makers. As with most genre movies they rely heavily on not giving much away, allowing you to interpret what you will and formulate your own opinions. Oddly enough I kind of liked it, but there are things I did not like. What I liked: If you are not into slow burn movies then you need to give this a miss. I found the pacing of the movie to be spot on. There were moments I wanted things to move a little faster, but I was quickly corrected upon receiving the payoff. The cinematography was perfect, I love the dark tones and intentional colour palette. Reminded me a lot of SAW, although it didn't have the same gore. Box Metaphor leaves a great deal to the imagination, and that's where I like to live. The acting was okay (more on that later), I liked the score and sound design. I could see what the director was going for and I genuinely believe he achieved his goal. I think a bigger budget would have gone a long way, but the low budget is what gives the film its chalm. What I didn't like: Let's talk about the acting. The acting was acceptable but the one thing that kept taking me out of it were the Australian accents. A quick search and I found that it was made by an incredibly small production company based in Sydney Australia. After checking out their instagram, you could clearly see how and I guess why they made this film. From what I could find they started shooting in 2021, yes we all know how the world was. In short I can see they did what they did with what they had. I would have liked to see more of and about the supporting cast, this could be explored more in perhaps Box:Metaphor 2? Would I recommend this film? Yes. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/05/24 Full Review Film L The world has changes, and over the past few years films have been a clear representation of what we have all been through. Box Metaphor is no different, with it's not so subtle view on society and where they think it is heading. The set up is clear and simple, giving you enough to understand the film and leaving enough for you to draw your own conclusions. I can see more films like this coming out in the future and to be honest it's a breath of fresh air seeing what can be done on a micro budget. I like the way lighting was used sparingly, showing just enough to help tell the story. After all it's not a docco and stylisation is the key here, and the cinematography nailed it. There were very few actors and I would love to see behind the scenes to get a feel for how this film was shot and how they went about it. I got Buried (2010) vibes only on a lower budget a more Heart. Highly recommended viewing. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/05/24 Full Review Read all reviews
