The joys are more leisurely. For instance we can watch the gradual formation of Charlie Brown's crinkle smile and some well-timed slow reactions. Go to Full Review

Teddy B Jan 10 A silent classic; sensible and sophisticated. The epitome of the heart of the Peanuts franchise. See more Liam D @Mediawatcher2003 06/20/2024 The first feature film for the Peanuts gang. This is one of those rare animated films where anyone no matter the age can watch it and enjoy it. A very wholesome movie See more Mike P 03/29/2024 Excellent debut feature for our beloved Peanuts gang; numbers among it's best... With superb animation from series regular Bill Melendez; (who had just scored an Emmy with "A Charlie Brown Christmas" a couple years before, which was hailed as an instant classic); there's also great songs from the always reliable Leslie Bricusse and Rod McKuen; and an excellent story about our put-upon hero Charlie Brown finally gaining some confidence by winning a Spelling Bee. Very fun and entertaining; top of the line entertainment for kids. Overall: Recommended 👍 See more 12/06/2023 it's been over 50 years since Bill Melendez created the beloved bald-headed kid and the rest of the Peanuts gang including Snoopy, Lucy, Linus etc. this is actually Charlie Brown's first feature film released and the timeless sensation would go on for generations to delight children and parents alike here Charlie Brown wants to fly his own kite, play baseball etc. but of course the universe is against him let's face it though, he was never an upbeat character to begin with it's just that he's gotten the raw end of the stick so frequently all this kid wants is some luck for a change and to have everlasting memories with his friends, he just has to build up his confidence and self-esteem first maybe Charlie Brown has to figure out his faults and personality traits that might be keeping him from succeeding when he has a chance to enter a spelling bee though he might just have a chance to come out on top although Charlie Brown may have a lot to learn about overworking himself than just spelling words the animation is soft and smooth, the kid actors are delightful voicing these characters, and the hijinks are hilarious it also caught me off guard this was a musical but it makes for a nice addition there are a lot of padding scenes in here, still it's nice to see the artistry with the animators showing how much they can do with it the creators after all this time have crafted a very worthy animated film with a simple message for all children without making things seem to grim winning isn't everything, if you keep doing different things you might win eventually, nobody is born a loser, there is such a thing as working hard and overworking yourself to the point where you are completely worn out, it's best to not push yourself to be better but rather try to be better, even if you don't succeed the world doesn't come to an end, you'll always be welcome home at the end of the day a timeless masterpiece that will withstand the test of time for all viewers See more Sebastian M 05/17/2023 L'ho visto per la prima volta in DVD e devo dire che questo film mi è piaciuto un sacco, ogni scena del film ti intrattiene e non annoia mai, in questo film si può vedere quanto Charlie Brown sia intelligente quanto gli altri che lo criticano See more 09/26/2022 There's really not much one can say about this -- It's a wonderfully endearing and wholesome story about Charlie Brown, arguably the most affable and relatable character in Children's Literature. It was once said that the ultimate objective of any writer is to induce catharsis in the audience, and honestly I don't know if I can think of any movie that does this as well as 'A Boy Named Charle Brown'; that is, at least without involving death, disease, poverty or war. Perhaps the smartest element of this movie that turns it from a solid movie to a brilliant one, is that while Charlie Brown was merely a primary player in his other features (like A Charlie Brown Christmas), this movie instead focuses ENTIRELY on the character's psychology - his fears, his aspirations, his introspection, his pride and his misery, and these elements are genuinely flawless. Throw in the fact that Snoopy is as awesome as ever, Linus' increasing breakdown, and how Lucy, when she's not being an aggressor, is genuinely intelligent in her own right. Oh, and this film's portrayal of the empty, almost abandoned-looking city at night, is genuinely amazing; while the images aren't particularly detailed, they exude an atmospheric quality akin to Mister Magoo's Christmas Carol (only even better here, in my opinion). While the film isn't entirely perfect, I really can't think of anything I don't like about it; MAYBE the movie spends slightly too long involving Charlie Brown trying to fly a kite, but that's about it!
