Behind the gloss and beyond an in-form Mammootty, Bramayugam is not scary despite its promising atmospherics. It is also flimsy ... until it begins to lay out its caste politics. The film’s allegorical take on caste proves to be muddled and insensitive.

This movie takes a very simple premise and stretches it out into an engaging and pleasant feature length affair. I have watched many Indian films, and this movie incorporates many classic film elements from the sociology of its nation of origin, especially the caste system, and religious belief / superstition. Would reccomend for a newcomer to Indian cinema, but would warn those newbies; there is a lot of fast speech in here, so be prepared to keep your eyes on some speedy subtitles!

Towards the end, the movie felt like a bloated mess. Has a thrilling and heartbreaking climax, but the film did not feel like a wholesome satisfying experience. For Mammooty, this film like a downgrade after what he did in Nanpakal Nerathu Mayakkam. Arjun Ashokan as Thavan did well throughout the movie.
