M I like the movie because, I've been there. The breakdown in communication, saying terrible things, doing terrible things, each party doing everything they can to hurt the other. It was like reliving the past. I've grown, and I don't do this anymore. But watching it on screen, every little thing, the refusal to compromise, the refusal to come to the table, the refusal to understand each other; I think it's something everyone can relate to, and you know, that if they just swallowed their pride, and sat down and talked and listened, then things would have been fine, and they would have been together. When two people in a relationship stop giving, and worse, start hurting each other, it spirals out of control. I felt they illustrated that point quite well, and they deserve more attention for it. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/20/24 Full Review Debbie A If you have ever lived with verbal or emotional abuse and want to re-live it, this could be for you. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 02/14/24 Full Review Gareth v Another movie to add to the list of stinkers Jennifer Anniston has been involved in. Unfunny, dull and outright bad. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 02/02/24 Full Review M R Incomplete rom com lacking the charm or whimsy it seems to attempt to achieve. It tries to be realistic but then backs down. Focusing too much on the breakup and surrounding events also ruins the pacing thus keeping one from being engaged with the film. It was a little laborious to complete. The film does not know whether it wants to be a comedy or drama. It feels labored too, all around. Not bad for a half ass job, but not very good either. Rating: 6/10 Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 10/30/23 Full Review Max W Despite numerous inexplicable setups and plot twists along the way that leaves the audience bewildered and puzzled, at least The Break-Up conveys a relatively real message: that life is not always as beautiful as it appears in movies, and sometimes, that might just be better. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 09/24/23 Full Review Jace E This entire film is pointless and frustratingly unbearable. The two leads have zero redeemable qualities and there was no point where I was actually invested in their relationship. I cannot say that there was a single moment where I laughed, and the film was marketed as a comedy. I hope to never have to watch The Break-Up again. Candice Frederick Reel Talk Online was mostly shocked by Vince Vaughan, who showed me for the first time that he wasn't the long-delayed immature frat boy he so often plays, but actually an imperfect hilarious, yet often silly, character who's main flaw is his selfishness. Rated: B Sep 12, 2017 Full Review Philip French Guardian This is that branch of the romantic comedy known as 'a relationship movie', but generally short on witty lines and amusing incidents. Jul 22, 2006 Full Review Tony Horkins Empire Magazine The Break-Up doesn't turn the rom-com on its head, but with its focus on the darker side of love manages to gently tip it on its side. Rated: 3/5 Jul 22, 2006 Full Review David Walsh World Socialist Web Site One feels a little frightened for Anniston's character on occasion. The misogynistic tone of the script is palpable. Feb 14, 2021 Full Review Richard Crouse Richard Crouse This is a perfect date movie if you plan on dumping the person you're with when the movie is over. Rated: 2/5 Jan 31, 2021 Full Review Debbie Lynn Elias Behind The Lens So, pick a side, any side. We all know that breaking up is hard to do. You can at least do it with laughter with The Break Up.
