Jay Carr Boston Globe The film behaves as if it's dealing in soul-baring insights and emotional deepening. But it's only dealing in plastic. It's rare to encounter such unfailing falseness in a movie that seems to have been launched with benign intentions. Feb 14, 2025 Full Review Harper Barnes St. Louis Post-Dispatch I suspect all these kids are going somewhere, and Hughes, of course, is already there. Feb 14, 2025 Full Review Rob Salem Toronto Star Hughes is clearly of the impression that he knows a lot about kids and the way they think. He is, for the most part, mistaken... Yet this is a movie well worth seeing, if only for the performances, which are without exception excellent. Feb 14, 2025 Full Review Christopher Lloyd The Film Yap John Hughes' masterpiece, both the lodestone for Generation X and a story of the universality of teen struggles. Rated: 5/5 Aug 4, 2025 Full Review Danielle Solzman Solzy at the Movies No list of the best teen films or best films of the 1980s is complete without including The Breakfast Club. Rated: 4/5 Feb 18, 2025 Full Review Patrick Taggart Austin American-Statesman I can't remember ever wanting to applaud at the end of a movie, but the only reason I didn't after The Breakfast Club is that I was practically paralyzed with excitement. With this rousing new film... the Hollywood youth film finally comes of age. Feb 14, 2025 Full Review Read all reviews

best movie ever Best Movie ever made. Rip John Hughes Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/01/24 Full Review Jo S Best movie of ALL time!! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 05/22/21 Full Review Gareth v This iconic 80's movie may not be perfect, but it’s memorable, honest, and occasionally profound — a thoughtful time capsule of teenage life. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 08/06/25 Full Review Daniel V No matter how many times I see this flick, it never gets old or boring or less relevant. Yes, this is a high school movie that takes place in the 1980s, written by a man (genius) who went to high school in the 1960s in the midwest. But the problems these 5 kids were facing are still the same problems kids like me who went to high school in the 1990s and kids who are going to high school in 2025. John Hughes understood teenagers. He knew how to write them and he knew how to direct them. And of all the teen classics he created, Pretty in Pink, Sixteen Candles, Some Kind of Wonderful and Weird Science, this is the man at the pinnacle of his powers. With a cast of some of the most talented people of their generation, a movie that takes place in essentially one location never fails to keep your eyes and ears glued. That is much easier to do with a thriller or horror movie but with a teen drama, one would think it impossible. I love Molly, Emilo, Ally, Anthony Michael and of course Judd! I call them by their first names because when I was a kid, these people felt like my friends. I gobbled up as many of them and their fellow Brat Packers movies like Lemonheads, the most delicious movie candy ever! John Hughes is one of my favorite filmmakers of all time, he is an idol of mine and this is my absolute favorite. Keep in mind the movies I mentioned above as well classics such as National Lampoon's Vacation and Christmas Vacation, both Home Alone movies, Mr. Mom, The Great Outdoors, Uncle Bunk and so many more. Big shout out to Paul Gleeson as Principal Vernon, who was able to be so memorable amongst this talented young cast. Not to mention John Kapelos as Carl the janitor who was also memorable in a small but pivotal role. This flick works so well because of all of the people involved, on and off screen. I love movies so much and seeing this in the mid 80s, even if I may not have been old enough to understand how powerful this short journey is for our 5 characters on that faithful Saturday in detention, was part of the foundation for my lifelong love affair with Hollywood. Thank you Molly, Ally, Anthony Michael, Emilio, Judd, Paul, John K and of course the legendary John Hughes for being such an important part of my life. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/26/25 Full Review Everett G One of my personal favorite movies ever Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/20/25 Full Review Horror fan 4 The greatest John hughes Movie!! This is a great story filled with delightfuly emotional characters who all have problems at home. The scene where there all talking in a great is the best. A Masterpiece.
