Ben Russell (Chandler Riggs), an unemployed yet ambitious 24-year-old, brings his girlfriend Cassie (Samantha Isler) from Los Angeles to his rural Oregon hometown to meet his parents and siblings for the first time and spend Christmas with his family: his goofy dad Kirby (James Urbaniak), loving but stern mom Mia (Brook Hogan), aspiring vlogger younger sister Liz (Carly Stewart), and enigmatic deadbeat older brother Gordon (Jacob Wysocki). The arrival is bumpy, and the family's dynamic unearths some internal conflict Cassie is having with her relationship with Ben. A late night conversation between the couple turns into a breakup, and Cassie determines she should go home for Christmas after all. But due to the winter weather and remote rural location, Cassie learns she is unable to travel. She becomes stuck with her newly minted ex's family for the rest of the holiday.

Sean H Breakup Season is a delightful new addition to the Christmas movie lineup. With deeper themes and a heartfelt story that takes a very real look at relationships, both romantic and familial, this isn’t your average Christmas movie, but one that will leave you thinking when you’re done and leave you with the need to revisit it every holiday with your loved ones. Breakup Season does a great job toeing that line and is a cozy, sometimes joyous/sometimes bittersweet realistic family drama that will leave you talking about it for days after. Definitely recommend checking it out. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/08/25 Full Review sam t This is such a great christmas classic Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/07/25 Full Review Chris W I went to the LA Premiere of this film in North Hollywood. I heard about the success this was having at film fests through social media and wanted to check it out. I’m glad I went because this film is very well made. The story is relatable and the cast’s performances were solid. Nelson H Tracy made a film that felt real, which is not easy to do on an indie level. I ended up seeing this film again during its theatrical run. I enjoyed it even more! Congrats to Nelson and the whole team behind this film! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/07/25 Full Review Gruner V Less a holiday rom-com than a bittersweet dramedy (more sweet than bitter though), Breakup Season combines a great cast and clever script to crowd-pleasing effect. The train scene is a knockout. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/07/25 Full Review Read all reviews
