Critics Consensus

A marriage of genuine characters, gross out gags, and pathos, Bridesmaids is a female-driven comedy that refuses to be boxed in as Kristen Wiig emerges as a real star.

Candice Frederick Reel Talk Online Sure, it neatly avoids a lot of the fluff found in many chick flicks and replaces it with crass shenanigans, but it adds touching moments when they're needed most, providing for a smart, less clichéd comedy. Rated: B Sep 8, 2017 Full Review Anthony Quinn Independent (UK) Through a combination of smart performances and scurrilous gags Bridesmaids yanks the buddy comedy from the hands of its traditional owners. Rated: 4/5 Jun 30, 2015 Full Review Kate Muir The Times (UK) The big, brash laughs are coupled with a smart insight into women's friendships. Rated: 4/5 Jun 30, 2015 Full Review Don Shanahan Every Movie Has a Lesson Every lady who has ever been a bride, a bridesmaid, or a maid of honor should see this. You will either laugh at the moments that remind of your own wedding party or laugh thankfully that none of these characters were anyone of you or someone else. Rated: 4/5 Feb 18, 2024 Full Review Brian Eggert Deep Focus Review The movie doesn’t treat its female characters as exceptions to the absurd comedic rule that women aren’t funny, but for moviegoers devoted to that archaic idea, it will certainly prove them wrong. Rated: 3.5/4 Jun 7, 2023 Full Review Rene Jordan El Nuevo Herald (Miami) Unforgivable two hours and a half. [Full review in Spanish] Aug 9, 2022 Full Review Read all reviews

Lilly R. Fun, but the humor was a little bit of a miss for me. Just all really awkward. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 10/21/25 Full Review Waniya S This was good but I feel like so many things went missing, like they didn’t get a complete ending but they were talked about in movie. Loved the first half of the police guy and hated him second half like what do you mean your attitude changed as soon as yall slept together!? Movie also had various themes but as I said they felt uncompleted. Like hitting rock bottom but there was no typical getting into a better position, friendship was a huge part of this movie but then again felt uncompleted and there were just so many of plots film had but weren’t THERE where they should have been! Rated 2 out of 5 stars 10/09/25 Full Review Isabel A. This movie was cute and funny. I can’t believe it took me so long to see it. Had no clue maya rudolph was in it Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/16/25 Full Review Movie G Movie for intellectuals. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 07/26/25 Full Review Daniel N Loved it. Was brilliant when it first came out and is still brilliant today. Great fun and easy to watch. Basically The Hangover for women. Hands down Kristen Wigg's best performance.
