Critics Consensus

Bogged down in slapstick and silliness, Edge of Reason is a predictable continuation of the Bridget Jones story.

Will Self London Evening Standard What I can't stand about this film is the way it talks down to its audience. Dec 21, 2017 Full Review Nell Minow Common Sense Media Repeat of first film lacks charm. Not for kids. I don’t consider this a BAD movie, but it never quite gets as romantic or comedic as the first film. [Full review in Spanish]. Eye C The amount of money they should have spended for the rights of the music they put on every 30 seconds. I was not expecting to laugh with this one, but I did, this is not going down, it levels with the first one. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/12/25 Full Review Julian S The film has its share of laughs, but it can’t quite recapture the emotional depth of the original. And Bridget? They’ve taken her character in reverse gear. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/08/25 Full Review r96 s 'Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason' is a totally pointless sequel. There isn't really anything substantial that happens in this, it basically goes in one big circle before finishing how it started; aside from one minute-long detail. Admittedly, it does manage to avoid being bad. Renée Zellweger remains a plus, as do Colin Firth and Hugh Grant. With that said, this film adds nothing new to their characters, they are just replicas of themselves from the 2001 original. The film (as before) does have a charm to it, which saves it from a lower rating... too generous? Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/03/25 Full Review matthias s **Review: Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason** Rewatching *Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason* brought back a flood of memories—mostly of my sisters binge-watching these films growing up. The first one is undeniably the best, but this sequel still holds its own. Sure, it leans a bit more into melodrama, but it’s packed with that signature awkward humor that made Bridget iconic. Renée Zellweger is as charming as ever, bumbling through bad decisions and cringe-worthy moments. The prison sequence? A bizarre yet oddly heartwarming highlight. And, of course, the hilariously scrappy fight between Mark and Daniel in the fountain—it’s the kind of absurdity that makes this series so lovable. The cast remains top-tier (Hugh Grant’s smarm is unparalleled), and while the story wobbles here and there, it keeps you smiling. It’s not as tight as the original, but it’s still a thoroughly enjoyable sequel that had me rooting for Bridget all over again. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/28/25 Full Review alan g Much worse than the first. Forced, unfunny. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 01/25/25 Full Review Les N Yeah...the fight scene was realistic.
