With an unerring but sardonic sense of how death presses in on us all, this is a promisingly pungent debut from Mitchell. Go to Full Review

Between Calder’s immaculate performance, Aljosa Spajic’s flawless production design, and Igor Marovic’s cinematography, which balances eerie detachment with shockingly tender intimacy, Broken Bird is remarkably well realized for a first-time feature. Go to Full Review

Mitchell’s slow-reveal, character-driven shocker...contemplates how the voids left by a loved one’s death can fill themselves with the darkest parts of us. Go to Full Review

Broken Bird turns what could be an intimate character study into a contrived and lifeless spectacle. Go to Full Review

For a first-time feature director, Broken Bird is quite the introduction. Mitchell has an eye for performance and design that are excitingly fresh. Go to Full Review

Greg 6d Nonsensical. Needed so much more backstory See more Bruce M @BruceMc Apr 30 Despite nice set design, good direction and a nice performance by lead Rebecca Calder, "Broken Bird" is simply okay, not very memorable and certainly doesn't present anything new. It's the best movie about a woman working in a funeral home of 2026, but that's not saying much. For a much smarter and better movie with a similar setting, see the 1996 "Kissed." See more Roman Apr 29 Depraved in a fun way. See more DAVID G Apr 29 very boring film women should leave film writing to men See more Steven G @roflplatypus Apr 28 Yeah it wasn't perfect, but was still pretty good. No jump scares, which is always nice. Weaving together the plotlines worked pretty well. Ms. Calder is perfectly unhinged. Twists you can kinda see coming from a while away, but they still do hit when they finally get there. See more Dave Apr 26 Broken Bird is a very good, slow-burn psychological thriller that intrigues the audience with the deviant behavior of a person with a broken mind. This is a character-driven movie, with no cheap jump scares or gratuitous violence. This film depicts how some people deal with loneliness, feelings of rejection or inadequacy, and grief. Rebecca Calder gives an excellent and believable performance as a weirdo, assistant mortician, whose fantasies fuel her psychopathic behavior. From her hairdo to the way she dresses, Calder’s character is different in an odd and creepy way. The supporting cast also provide good performances. There is a side story, with a connection to the main one, that is revealed in the last part of the movie. This indie film did not disappoint! See more Read all reviews
