Jerry O'Connor (Dennis O'Keefe) is a tractor operator who would rather be a race-car driver; Buddy Buttle (Nat Pendleton) is his backwoods friend. Race-car magnate Pinky Delano (Harry Carey), obsessed with breaking speed records, sees O'Connor in a small-time auto race, hires him to be one of his racers and hires Buddy to be a mechanic. But, after several of Delano's drivers die in freak accidents, O'Connor suspects foul play and fears that he may be next.
