Sets up a familiarly dysfunctional family reunion, only to make several surprising switches in tone. Go to Full Review

It was very funny... but it also has a lot of heart. Go to Full Review

Butterflies feels as airy as the village it's set in, yet still packs a punch in showing how the distance between a family can make people as foreign to one another as how far away they may live. Go to Full Review

Overall, Butterflies does have a lot going for it, and will be a strong enough emotional and inspirational experience for most; though it will be hard for some to see past the heavy-handed theming and frayed logical throughlines. Go to Full Review

See more 02/23/2020 Although it may feel like you are watching an absurd skit that resembles the trend in the Turkish comedies sometimes and the first few scenes may feel unnecessarily lengthy, the movie is successful in making us delve into the conflicts of and between the characters. However, in the end, the viewer has to be aware of a classic postmodern ending, where the final scene does not necessarily have to mean something so much that you may feel out of the movie. Although it is not necessarily a bad thing, the two hours of quality time deserves a better ending than this. Nevertheless, the ending contributes to the final shot, where our characters have finally resolved their conflicts. Definitely a good representation of the modern Turkish cinema.
