[Pia Zadora] won a Golden Globe Award for best new talent... It makes one wonder. Could the Hollywood foreign press have glue for brains? Go to Full Review

Butterfly is a decrepit lust-in-the-dust melodrama with as much relevance and far less humor than Tobacco Road. Go to Full Review

A most entertainingly sleazy melodrama. Go to Full Review

... a laughing stock in 1982, and it’s still risible now, but there’s fascination in watching these ageing big names circle a famously flighty ingénue.... Go to Full Review

Producer-director-cowriter Matt Cimber, known heretofore mainly as a soft-core filmmaker and a master of wringing out big production values from tiny means, again does a lot with a slim budget of less than $2 million. Go to Full Review

Claudio C Sep 22 Butterfly (1981) The Birthmark (11,933 - 22 Sep 2025 – by Claudio Carvalho) In 1937, on the Nevada-Arizona border, Jess Tyler (Stacy Keach) is a lonely man caretaker of a mine of silver. His wife left him ten years ago and took his two daughters with her. Out of the blue, seventeen years old teenager appears at his house and tells him that he is his daughter Kady (Pia Zadora). Jess is seduced by Kady, who has a baby son with Wash Gillespie (Edward Albert). Wash is the son of the owner of the mine where Jess works. The problem is when they fall in love with each other and Wash proposes Kady to marry him. “Butterfly” (1981) is an underrated melodrama with soft eroticism by Matt Cimber based on a 1947 novel “The Butterfly” by James M. Cain. This film is also the introduction of Pia Zadora in the cinema industry, since her wealthy husband is the producer. This film deals with a difficult theme, incest, and maybe this is the reason for its bad reputation. It is not recommended for moralist viewers. Stacey Keach and Pia Zadora have great performances, and the story is excellent and believable. My vote is seven. Who doesn't enjoy watching a beautiful new face in Hollywood grace the big screen in a sexy romantic role? Exactly! Everything they did here was perfectly balanced. For the harsh critic this story takes place in Nevada. The legal consent age is 16 years old. So no the girl was not underage. See more 02/25/2016 I liked this movie and thought it was very well acted by pia Isadora and Stacy Keach as well as all of the others in the movie. It reflected real life and real life in the thirties especially. See more 05/15/2015 Campy infamous "bad movie" holds the attention due to its awfulness, and Pia Zadora playing 'dramatic' scenes with Orson Welles is nothing to sneeze at. See more Read all reviews
