Nell Minow RogerEbert.com Butter limits itself to an artificial set-up and a superficial level of storytelling, more afterschool special than feature film. Rated: 2/4 Feb 25, 2022 Full Review Lisa Kennedy New York Times For all its ache and churning emotions, “Butter” winds up being little more than a meager “Afterschool Special.” Feb 24, 2022 Full Review Pat Padua Washington Post Ultimately, it is, like its conflicted hero, sweet and likable, and you wish it well. Rated: 2.5/4 Feb 23, 2022 Full Review Erik Childress eFilmCritic.com A film that takes a sensitive rather than exploitive look at bullying. Alex Kersting develops real empathy and is aided by some carefully balanced supporting work from Mira Sorvino and Mykelti Williamson. Rated: 3/4 Apr 4, 2022 Full Review Christopher Llewellyn Reed Hammer to Nail Though I have not read the source novel I can only hope it explores the topic with greater nuance. Nevertheless, the overall package works. Kersting is endlessly appealing, and his presence makes it all better. Feb 25, 2022 Full Review Steven Warner In Review Online On its surface, new teen dramedy Butter seems like the kind of film in which only a real monster could find fault. ... But it's really just an after-school special pleading for tolerance. Feb 25, 2022 Full Review Read all reviews

Tim S Good movie with a nice story. It is sad but in the way that is realistic. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 10/02/23 Full Review Kalu L Butter (An obese boy) decide to commit suicide by eating a lot in live streaming and suddenly become the most popular person of the school. Very disappointing movie. Doesn't focus on the real problem and deviate on parties and untrue situations. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 09/28/23 Full Review Michael S A nice feel good movie that takes on two serious subjects( bullying & suicide) in a creative way. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 08/29/23 Full Review Amazingly A This is the movie of all time Rated 5 out of 5 stars 05/28/23 Full Review mark d Talk about an offbeat movie! I really wasn't sure going into it, but I'm glad I gave this film a chance. The lead was excellent as was Mira Sorvino. Very well done and it also made a strong statement about just how damaging bullying can be. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member Going in I was hyped beyond all relief. And this film delivered on every one of those wishes. What more could you want in a movie? Butter is exactly what I want in more modern movies. Not just comedies, but dramas as well. Highly recommend. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/17/23 Full Review Read all reviews
