Matt Brunson Creative Loafing Remaking a unique classic like Casablanca would be an act of sheer folly, so here we have a movie that kinda-sorta-maybe-vaguely can be called a remake. Even without comparisons, this one's a snoozer. Rated: 1.5/4 Oct 2, 2016 Full Review Read all reviews

Audience Member I own this on DVD in a two movie pack along with: * Chino (1972) Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/24/23 Full Review Audience Member lustige 80er jahre trash adaption von casablanca Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/19/23 Full Review Audience Member "Everybody comes to Giff's." Tropical riff on another casa that was blanca, with Chuck amuck in a sunken treasure plot against a Nazified Robards and Rey in the role of the police chief with mixed loyalties. As in the original, Bronson's character does not have much of a real romantic rival in McCorkindale. The tension in that aspect coming more from his blotto ex providing some will-they-won't-they tension for him and Sanda. There are some nice, high contrast exteriors, with cheated crane shots providing a meager sense of expanse. JLT largely plays it straight up the middle, though with more humor emerging at the end after a very nice monologue by Robards. It's a real treat for Bronson fans, with him in excellent form and no heavy propaganda after the requisite exoticism is given the once over. Maybe not the most ambitious film from this director or star, but a classic feel and surprisingly less typecast despite the material. This certainly does not deserve the reaction it seems to have garnered upon release, nor the rating barely above that of another Casablanca variation - Barb Wire.
