deke p Never saw a bit o it until now 5.17.2022, about 63 years after produced in 1959. Very famous then as Soviet Dictator Khruschev was visiting the US, and the filming of the CAN CAN scenes, and he voiced he was scandalized by the indecency and immodesty. GREAT CAST. IMHO, anything with MAURICE CHEVALIER is worth watching. Also JULIET PROWSE. It got very poor reviews. And I have never even seen it on TV before now. Note to sef: Might watch it again, and payparticular attention to the Alpha thru Omega. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review steve d I don't know if it is the musical or the film but this was terrible. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Audience Member 20th-Century Fox adapted Cole Portrer's stage musical to the screen and assigned old reliable Walter Lang to direct it; with an all-star cast and songs like "I Love Paris" and "C'est Magnifique," it should have been much better than the bland, talky film that it turned out to be. The only bright spots are Juliet Prowse and the performance of the title tune. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/27/23 Full Review Audience Member What this all boils down to is that "Can-Can" not so much left me disappointed but more under whelmed. It is entertaining enough but only really works here and there with a lot of it be it the humour or musical numbers being quite forgettable. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/25/23 Full Review Audience Member 5 great stars (Prowse was just getting started) in a rather average film makes this a bit of a disappointment. It's wonderful to see a few of these songs performed in their original context, and a few scenes are exceptionally well done; but this film is a bit of a dog. Perhaps if MacLaine had been a brunette instead... Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/25/23 Full Review Audience Member I'm saving her for a rainy day. Francois Durnais and Simone Pistache operate a club that offers opportunities to watch the forbidden dance, the Can-Can. They pay-off and allow local crime officials in to keep the club open; unfortunately, an ambitious judge seeks to shut them down. The charismatic couple will have to turn their efforts up a notch to keep their club open. "I am not confused. You haven't asked me anything intelligent." Walter Lang, director of The King and I, The Little Princess, State Fair, There's No Business Like Show Business, Greenwich Village, The Jackpot, and Sitting Pretty, delivers Can Can. The storyline for this picture is fairly straightforward and felt a bit unimaginative. I did enjoy the cast's performance but it was more fun than serious. The cast includes Frank Sinatra, Shirley MacLain, Marcel Dalio, Juliet Prowse, and Nestor Paiva. "Fat cat, where are you? I found this on cable and had to DVR it as a huge fan of Sinatra. This was very average and just okay. I was a bit disappointed with this film and felt it could have been better. Overall, this is only worth seeing for diehard Sinatra or classic movie fans. Clyde Gilmour Maclean's Magazine [The] Broadway hit of a few seasons ago has been processed into a big noisy musical which is pleasant entertainment although several of its top numbers are lacking in zip and sparkle... incongruously mingled in the speech patterns...
