Critics Consensus

Cars 2 is as visually appealing as any other Pixar production, but all that dazzle can't disguise the rusty storytelling under the hood.

Shubhra Gupta The Indian Express The trouble with stuffing too much into a film quickly becomes evident in Cars 2, as the plotlines tumble and collide with each other creating, mostly, cacophony. Rated: 2/5 Apr 2, 2019 Full Review Leah Rozen TheWrap Don't tell the kids, but Santa Claus isn't real and Pixar is fallible. Oct 7, 2011 Full Review Derek Malcolm London Evening Standard It is all quite jolly and fast-paced, a feast for the eyes, but there's not much for the mind or the heart. Rated: 3/5 Jul 22, 2011 Full Review Brian Eggert Deep Focus Review It may not live up to the usual sophistication associated with the animation studio, but that doesn’t mean it’s a bad film. Rated: 3/4 Mar 12, 2023 Full Review Petrana Radulovic Polygon It's all the delight of a spy movie, but with the added fact of Oh right, they're all cars! Mar 1, 2021 Full Review Mike Massie Gone With The Twins This sequel wisely alters course - in the most extreme direction imaginable - to spoof spy thrillers. Javier L Para Mi Cars 2 Es God Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/26/25 Full Review Stephen C Failure in 1 hour and 47 minutes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 06/19/25 Full Review HameZz O It's not that bad. Kind've enjoyable. Kids will most likely be entertained. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 06/19/25 Full Review Jacopo D Non è bello come i film della Pixar precedenti ad esso. What did I just watch?! Cars 2 — or as I like to call it, ‘Fast & Furiously Confusing!’ First off, lemme tell ya, I’m all for a good spy caper, but putting Mater in the spotlight? Hoo boy, that’s like asking a turkey to host Thanksgiving dinner — it’s a disaster waiting to happen! And oh, what a disaster it was! Now, I thought Cars was about heart, friendship, and racing — ya know, simple stuff. But Cars 2 threw all that out the tailpipe and zoomed headfirst into some international espionage mumbo jumbo. It’s like Pixar said, “Forget Lightning McQueen, let’s make Mater the James Bond of Radiator Springs!” And guess what? It didn’t work. The plot? I needed a GPS to follow it! Spies, secret weapons, bad guys, good guys… what’s going on? I felt like a confused duck in a henhouse! And those accents? Oh, the accents! I couldn’t tell if I was watching a spy movie or an episode of Looney Tunes gone global. But I gotta hand it to the animators — the action scenes were slicker than a greased-up gremlin. And Lightning McQueen was as cool as ever, even if he got the short end of the exhaust pipe this time. Mater? Well, he was as lovable and goofy as ever, bless his rusty heart. All in all, Cars 2 is like a turbocharged rollercoaster that forgot to tell you where it’s going. If you want heart and charm, stick with the first Cars or, better yet, watch me in Duck Dodgers! Now that’s a classic! Final score: 2 outta 5 spinning tires. Because sometimes, even a great duck can’t save a bumpy ride!" Rated 2 out of 5 stars 06/12/25 Full Review mohamed k Let’s be honest, it’s a bad movie. You know it and we all do, but let’s be honest - Holley Shiftwell is hot.
