Nell Minow RogerEbert.com It is the compassion the film has for its characters that is the film’s true grace. Rated: 3/4 Feb 5, 2025 Full Review Noah Berlatsky Chicago Reader Cash for Gold, in its modest way, asks us to exchange our worst America for a better one. Jan 23, 2025 Full Review Patrick McDonald HollywoodChicago.com Puette is spot-on as Grace, connecting to the character’s need to survive, & Farahat as Hasan balances a family tragedy & the prejudices of the environment. What transpires is a Christmas story of hopeful redemption. With Puette & Producer Interviews. Rated: 3.5/5 Feb 25, 2025 Full Review Liz Braun AWFJ.org Deborah Puette makes an auspicious directorial debut with this engaging redemption drama about a blue collar town and the spectre of addiction in America’s heartland. It will leave you looking forward to whatever Deborah Puette does next. Feb 20, 2025 Full Review Sarah Vincent Sarah G Vincent Views “Cash for Gold” is Puette’s first writing gig so even though she lays it on thick, her inclinations are well-intentioned and overall realistic: Americans have more in common with immigrants than they may believe because life is hard for everyone. Feb 19, 2025 Full Review Marya E. Gates Cool People Have Feelings, Too. (Substack) The script definitely runs into a few indie film clichés, but the performances all around are moving, and the film’s world building is rich and nuanced. Kairo F An emotionally charged, beautifully crafted film. The filmmakers’ attention to detail shines through every scene, and the cast’s chemistry is excellent. The story of redemption and forgiveness is universal yet deeply personal. I felt like I knew these characters. A must-see. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/18/25 Full Review Emerald P This film truly left a lasting impact on me. Grace’s journey felt incredibly real, and the way it delved into forgiveness struck a deep chord. Every scene carried so much weight, both visually and emotionally, and the performances were breathtaking—every expression and line felt raw and genuine. This is one of those films that lingers in your mind long after the credits roll. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/18/25 Full Review Audience Member I’m really confused on the 100% rating. It was a nice movie, heart felt and had a lot truth to it, but it was slow, predictable and lacking a major climax for me. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/06/25 Full Review Amanda G I always appreciate a real, simple and unique story - and this was all three. The emotions in this film were raw and authentic. Most people know or have met a Grace, someone struggling, trying their hardest, and unable to forgive themself. It tackles important topics in a thoughtful way. Beautifully written and acted, this is a must see! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/06/25 Full Review Juleann L What a heartfelt movie that forces us to realize that oftentimes the hardest person to forgive is ourselves. Beautifully written, acted and directed, the story will touch your heart. There is a little bit of Grace in all of us! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/15/25 Full Review Angela M A beautiful film filled with depth of character and relatable emotions. There’s this unfolding of stories throughout the film charged with meaningful touch points of connection, keeping you engaged and curious. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/14/25 Full Review Read all reviews
