Critics Consensus

A great concept, but the movie fails to develop the characters and some of the jokes are hit-or-miss.

While this fusion [of different effects] seamlessly creates the illusion cats and dogs are indeed talking to each other, the story has all the charm of a flatulent Fido who's just devoured a crate full of Gravy Train. Go to Full Review

No real drama here, only little spurts of humor, and the decision to blend animatronics with live-action animals can get annoying. Go to Full Review

Cats & Dogs is meant to be entertaining and for the most part, is. Ignore the humans, embrace the animals and watch the fur, and fun, fly! And fear not - no animals were harmed in the making of this movie. Go to Full Review

It was a creative turn to make a movie based on the rivalry of cats & dogs. I liked the opening title sequences with using the casts names of their identities. I really understood Mr Tinkles: he wanted to overthrow dogs (I prefer cats) but allerge humanity to dogs then overthrow humans (taking over the world), that is way too far, it is like when I was mad at Disney (just for owning 20th & the greatness of entertainment it used to have (how it was affected) & Illumination (for succeeding the box office when DreamWorks is superior (that kinda makes it overrated)). He was funny as well, like believing evil figures do not wear bonnets. I think an allergy to dogs is underrated. I know this was done in 2001, but I can notice how some characters were puppetry & imperfect CGI (CGI elements that looked unrealistic). We should treat cats & dogs equally.
