Charles Hartford But Why Tho? A Geek Community Cells at Work manages to be an incredible adaptation. It not only adheres to the core concepts of its source material but also expands them. Rated: 9/10 Jun 13, 2025 Full Review James Marsh South China Morning Post It is precisely Takeuchi’s deft balance between overt silliness and genuinely thoughtful informative drama that ensures Cells at Work! is a surprisingly entertaining watch. Rated: 3/5 Feb 5, 2025 Full Review James Hadfield Japan Times Takeuchi is rare among Japanese filmmakers in his ability to make manga adaptations where the characters feel like they’ve stepped straight out of the pages of a comic, rather than a cosplay convention. Khaliel P I’m not familiar with the original manga at all, but that didn’t stop me from getting fully into the film and finding it really fun. At the same time, it also reminded me of "Once Upon a Time… Life". And as someone who’s been through chemotherapy, the second half of the movie hit even harder. The cast is great, the direction is solid, it’s colorful, funny, and moving. A real hidden gem! Rated 4 out of 5 stars 06/22/25 Full Review Sophia D As a fan of the original anime I think this was not only faithful recreation of the world but improved on the story in quite a few ways. I really enjoyed not only seeing out humanized cells getting their jobs done in the body but the addition of seeing the human we are looking inside. It really shows us the work that these cells do and how they can affect us. I enjoyed the addition of showing us an unhealthy body and showing the body functions that are considered taboo or gross. It was a great perspective. The writing isn't there all the Time and it can be cheesy but it is made up by phenomenal acting. Our main character of Red Blood Cell was phenomenal but who really blew me away was our main girl who we follow. Every time she was on screen I knew she was going to kill it. I was not expecting to cry during this movie but I did, twice. I also really appreciated the work that was put into the fight scenes. Because they could have just had the actors do it with the normal director and call it a day but you could tell not only did they have a proper stunt coordinator but they had practiced a lot. With a lot of the original anime being fights I was nervous going in but it was so well done. It makes me want more anime adaptations but this set the standard very high. I hope this creates a trend of adaptations because it was an amazing place to start. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 06/21/25 Full Review Johano Mateo J Some parts are imacccurate, characters are different macrophages look old, story not matched, many inaccuracies.
