Joe Leydon Variety An uneven but largely likable basketball-themed comedy. Mar 24, 2008 Full Review Desson Thomson Washington Post The outcome is deeply unsatisfying. Mar 24, 2008 Full Review Jack Mathews Los Angeles Times This is a bad time for NBA fans in Boston. Just as their beloved Celtics are about to wrap up a dismal season, with nearly 50 losses and no berth in the playoffs, Hollywood comes out with a comedy about the Celtics that's even worse than the team. Rated: 1/5 Feb 14, 2001 Full Review David Nusair Reel Film Reviews ...a high-concept premise that’s employed to perpetually affable (if somewhat forgettable) effect... Cedric B A must watch basketball movie! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/13/23 Full Review art s Celtic Pride has become somewhat of a guilty pleasure for me over the years, if you don't expect to much from it it's a funny movie with a hilarious plot and storyline. The movie stars Dan Aykroyd as Jimmy Flaherty and Daniel Stern as Mike O' Hara as two extremely passionate NBA Celtics fans. Both of their lives seem to revolve around The Celtics with everything else being secondary. Mike has a son and wife, who is on the verge of divorcing him because of his sports obsession. Jimmy is more or less a loser who has nothing else in his life but basketball. The movie's plot centers around Mike and Jimmy originally trying to get the main star of The Celtics opposing team for the NBA Finals The Utah Jazz, Lewis Scott, drunk at a night club so he's too hungover to play the game the next day. Jimmy and Mike get so hammered they wake up the next day not remembering what they had done, except apparently kidnapping Lewis Scott (played by a cocky Damon Waynes) before the night was over. By the time Lewis wakes it's too late for them to turn back. The movie maintains a light, comedic tone, never taking itself to seriously. It's no masterpiece by any means, but there's more than a few laughs provided by its 3 main stars - Waynes, Stern, and Aykroyd. Watch it on a rainy afternoon for some decent laughs. http://themoviepad.com Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Stephen C The least funny mother****ing 1.5 hours ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Bull**** me no more!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 08/28/22 Full Review Audience Member Highly underrated movie Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/25/23 Full Review Audience Member Just an all-time tale about the truly sick yet respectful nature of Boston fans. Somehow, due to the mental retardation in our brains, we could actually rationalize this decision, while turning the captive our friend. 11/10 flick, and the sequel could come after this NBA Finals. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/14/23 Full Review John W As a die hard celtics fan this movie holds a special place in my heart. Definitely a guilty pleasure to watch. I found it funny and have always loved all 3 actors work. Yes it is a flawed movie and doesn't take its premise far enough. This is a dark comedy satire that has some bite in it but doesnt fully embrace its mean spirit. An R rating would have been more interesting. This was Judd Apatow first written script for a movie, cool to see his early work. Clearly he hadn't mastered his craft yet. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/26/21 Full Review Read all reviews
