Mike (Daniel Stern) and Jimmy (Dan Aykroyd) are disconsolate after watching their favorite team, the Boston Celtics, lose a game in the NBA finals. They hatch a far-fetched scheme to sabotage Lewis Scott (Damon Wayans), the star of the opposing team, who is known for his love of nightlife, by getting him very drunk -- and thus too hungover to perform in the next game. After the two inadvertently kidnap the player instead, they dither about whether or not to release their captive.

Joe Leydon Variety An uneven but largely likable basketball-themed comedy. Mar 24, 2008 Full Review Desson Thomson Washington Post The outcome is deeply unsatisfying. Mar 24, 2008 Full Review Jack Mathews Los Angeles Times This is a bad time for NBA fans in Boston. Just as their beloved Celtics are about to wrap up a dismal season, with nearly 50 losses and no berth in the playoffs, Hollywood comes out with a comedy about the Celtics that's even worse than the team. Rated: 1/5 Feb 14, 2001 Full Review David Nusair Reel Film Reviews ...a high-concept premise that’s employed to perpetually affable (if somewhat forgettable) effect... Rated: 3/4 Nov 4, 2023 Full Review Mal Vincent The Virginian-Pilot Celtic Pride is a basketball comedy the way Fatal Attraction was a dating movie. Rated: 2/4 Mar 10, 2022 Full Review TV Guide Celtic Pride supplies predictably lowbrow yocks for jocks, and its rather disturbing racial implications go entirely unacknowledged. Cedric B A must watch basketball movie! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/13/23 Full Review Stephen C The least funny mother****ing 1.5 hours ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Bull**** me no more!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 08/28/22 Full Review Audience Member Highly underrated movie Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/25/23 Full Review Audience Member Just an all-time tale about the truly sick yet respectful nature of Boston fans. Somehow, due to the mental retardation in our brains, we could actually rationalize this decision, while turning the captive our friend. 11/10 flick, and the sequel could come after this NBA Finals. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/14/23 Full Review steve d Not even die-hard Celtic fans will find it the least bit funny. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Audience Member It was a toss up on 1 star or a half star, 1 star it is. This was one of my ex's fave movies, it is kind of a spoof movie/sports movie but it was kind of cool that Larry Bird makes a cameo. If you are from the Boston area and watch this you will agree with me. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 01/16/23 Full Review Read all reviews
