Audience Member To match the holidays this movie is A Change of Seasons Anthony Hopkins, Bo Derek, and Shirley McClain Adam, a professor at a university notices an attractive student named Lindsey. He's married to Karyn and has the gall to confess to her he's smitten with this young girl. As it turns out both of them are exploring other options outside their marriage. They end up sharing a ski lodge with each other's lovers. Karyn fools around with a man named Pete and Adam sticks with Lindsey. It's an unorthodox arrangement and it gets confusing for everyone to grasp. Even their daughter finds the whole thing overwhelming when she's made mistakes in her own love life. But how long until things spiral out of control? Will their marriage take a sour turn or be strengthened by this experience? Men and women react differently to infidelity. Both have a right to be upset and speak up about it. What are married women supposed to do with their husbands going after younger women, just sit and grind their teeth? One can't have double standards more than the other. Maybe some aren't into sex, just spirituality. Is marriage a dying art? Is the pleasure worth the pain? It's not a sane kind of world we live in, if we can find someone to love that's all there is. It's a lot of pressure for men and women one day facing the prospect of death and being worried about still being good looking, men worry about women still being attracted to them and women were raised to believe they had to be beautiful all the time. I like how this movie doesn't sink into too much of the melodrama. When it comes to a subject like polygamy it's very touchy. Hopkins and McClain own their roles with enough sincerity and respect to how they handle the situation delicately. In a way Karyn gets her freedom because of Adam's actions. Plus we even understand where Lindsey gets this kind of behavior from. This kind of lifestyle is messy for sure but looking from a new point of view can be informative. I enjoyed this a lot even if it ends on a confusing note. The script has enough laughs for this awkward situation but some good places to stop and think about sharing or holding onto what's already dear to us.
