Director Ulrich Edel has spared us none of the grimmest details of a young junkie’s life. And, thank goodness, because he’s managed to destroy a lot of glamorous myths about the subject. Go to Full Review

This is one of the most horrifying movies I have ever seen. That it is based on actual events makes it more heartbreaking. Go to Full Review

Seen today (and with its original soundtrack), the film still retains its power to shock and stun viewers without condescending to either them or the characters on the screen. Go to Full Review

while it occasionally smacks... of didactic hysteria, it's a hard hitting look at a problem more widespread than most of us dare or care to think. Go to Full Review

Brunkhorst is quite believable in the leading role, but in helping the film achieve a high level of veracity, it also gains a degree of sensationalism that doesn't sit well. Go to Full Review

Saul G Sep 9 Gritty realism and a time capsule of the early 80s. It not cool at all to be strung out on drugs period. See more May 1 Educational and motivating, it will be especially useful for teenagers who, out of desperation, try to repeat the plot of this film in real life See more Thomas S Jan 4 What a movie... I watched it first when I was about 18; never approached hard drugs the same way after that. See more Sandra F 12/01/2024 I fell in love with Christiane, Detlev.. well, all of them as a teenager and decided then that I/we must go there.. fast forward.. I did go and lived by Zoo station. We passed our days sitting and people watching, imagining and wishing we weren't decades to late but it was still the same in many respects and truly 'funny' how much life imitated Life imitated 'art' so to speak. BUT this is the only version I stick by.. realty and authenticity are the reason you must see the life of Christiane and friends and get to truly feel life as it was and can be.. NOT some glossy remake that almost insults their lives and what Natja Brunckhörst and Thomas bring to life for us. Thank you for sharing Christiane and to all 'the gang..' lovingly yet heartbreakingly balletic and perfect! Enßuldigung.. See more Sauron A 07/08/2024 A disturbing movie about kids getting addicted to drugs. The movie is based on real evens set in 1975-1977.The story is truly heartbreaking. The movie gained a cult following in recent years which is what made me watch it in the first place. The scene that disturbed me the most is the withdrawal scene.
