Finally alone for the holidays, Luther (Tim Allen) and Nora Krank (Jamie Lee Curtis) plan to eschew the Christmas traditions and take a cruise in the Caribbean instead. This doesn't sit well with their Christmas-obsessed neighbors Vic Frohmeyer (Dan Aykroyd) and Walt Scheel (M. Emmet Walsh), who are determined to win the annual "best decorated street" competition, and the Kranks soon find themselves social outcasts because of their lack of Christmas spirit.

Critics Consensus

A mirthless movie as fresh as last year's fruit cake, Christmas with the Kranks is a coarse, garish comedy that promotes conformity.

Nell Minow Common Sense Media Unoriginal, unfunny slapstick holiday fare. Rated: 1/5 Dec 22, 2010 Full Review J. R. Jones Chicago Reader In any normal year this dire comedy would be the undisputed lump of coal in our psychic stocking, but coming on the heels of Surviving Christmas, it's a close second. Jan 6, 2007 Full Review Anna Smith Empire Magazine [A] comedy so broad it barely dents its targets and a patronising moral conclusion that goes against everything its protagonists originally stood for. Rated: 1/5 Apr 1, 2006 Full Review Daniel Barnes Dare Daniel This exhausting parade of white people's Christmas problems offers only banality, blandness, and the most desperately unfunny sitcom hijinks imaginable. Rated: 1/5 Dec 4, 2020 Full Review Richard Propes TheIndependentCritic.com Allen was a bit low energy for my liking but actually came off better in his more sincere scenes towards the end of the film. Rated: 2.0/4.0 Sep 5, 2020 Full Review Debbie Lynn Elias Behind The Lens We loved him as Santa. We loved her as the hooker with a heart. We love Christmas. ... Gavin L Craving for some ice tea is going out tonight with a couple friends so I’ll have some for dinner and a couple for lunch tomorrow morning and I can get you a drink yyyou can have some of those too I don’t have a drink Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/14/25 Full Review matthias s **Christmas with the Kranks** Finally got around to watching *Christmas with the Kranks*, and honestly, I had a blast. With an incredible cast featuring Jamie Lee Curtis and Dan Aykroyd (who I always love), it’s hard not to enjoy. Plus, with Chris Columbus behind the script, you know it’s going to be at least decent, and it definitely delivers on the fun. Sure, the plot is silly, goofy, and absolutely unrealistic—skipping Christmas? Feuding with neighbors over decorations?—but that’s the charm. It’s hilarious at times and kept me smiling throughout. I’ll admit, I wasn’t as into the second storyline about the daughter coming home. The first half, with the Kranks rebelling against Christmas traditions, was way more entertaining. Still, it’s an enjoyable movie, and I totally get why it’s considered a holiday classic. Perfect if you’re in the mood for some lighthearted laughs and festive chaos. 3.5 stars! Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 12/31/24 Full Review Brady R Christmas With the Kranks contains no laughs or humor. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 01/25/25 Full Review Rick H I love Christmas movies and I watch this one almost every Christmas. But, it's really stupid. Tim Allen's eating scene after his face Botox treatment is cringe worthy. The entire movie is cringe worthy. So why do I still watch this moronic holiday movie every year? I don't know. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 12/30/24 Full Review Tyler S It was nice. Just a good, simple, Christmas movie to sit down with your family and enjoy. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 12/27/24 Full Review Jason E A-list stars in an F list movie. A complete town hell bent on guilt tripping a couple who are looking to skip Christmas. Heaven forbid someone doesn't celebrate Christmas or spend money on trees and other stuff. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 12/25/24 Full Review Read all reviews
