Audience Member I enjoyed the movie, the performances, the way they handled Isherwood and his life and the cast gave good performances Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/15/23 Full Review Audience Member It's not easy being gay during Nazi rule. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/12/23 Full Review Audience Member I really enjoyed this since I met the subject a long time ago in LA. Matt Smith did Isherwood proud but the scene stealer was Imogene Poots, playing Jean Ross, the inspiration for Sally Bowles/Cabaret. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/15/23 Full Review Audience Member I did not like it at all. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 02/24/23 Full Review Audience Member Such an enlightening movie, not only for portraying the glory of pre Nazi Germany, and the change the Nazis brought, but because I now understand who is the man behind many books and characters that are now part of the modern world stage.Characters that were the inspiration for movies and musical theater.Quite a nice movie, pretty good actually considering it is a TV movie.Matt Smith, what an actor!Though I have to admit I had my issues with Matt.I don't know if it's because of Dotor Who but I kept thinking that he was at times quite in character with his Doctor and not with Isherwood. It felt strange cause I kept visualising the Doctor, and I seriously don't feel like it was my minds fault. It's just that Smith's portrayal of Isherwood carried many characteristics of the 11th Doctor. All things considered,it was a good movie, not special but certainly not a dull work, not in the slightest. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/19/23 Full Review Audience Member Admittedly I really only wanted to see this because I love Matt Smith, but I was pretty impressed. It's a bit slow moving, but overall quite interesting, and the whole cast is compelling. With better production quality I would have enjoyed it more, but considering it's a BBC production it's definitely worth seeing.
