Fra B It's not comparable to the neorealist's classics and it's not a particularly good adaptation, but it gets right that the protagonist of this story is the road itself and that the characters who inhabit it are part of it. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 05/06/21 Full Review Audience Member Taking the love affairs of a number of lovers as the main plot, Lizanni's masterpiece lays a poignant accusation of Mussolini's Fascist regime. As no war is involved in the timeframe, the distant feeling should diminish comparing with those depicting the war vividly, making the oppression more empathetic. Who could forget that heartbreaking car chase in the midnight, and the charismatic Marcello Mastroianni's breakdown? A valuable treasure for the understanding of Fascist oppression.
