Jay Weissberg Variety Slick, creative animation and largely enjoyable music make Cinderella the Cat one of the best Italian animated films of recent years. Sep 26, 2018 Full Review Boyd van Hoeij The Hollywood Reporter The classic fairytale gets an unexpectedly dark and adult update in Cinderella the Cat (Gatta cenerentola), a strikingly animated tale. Sep 26, 2018 Full Review Charles Solomon Los Angeles Times The filmmakers seem to have been trying for the kind of animated film noir that has been done so skillfully in Japan, but "Cinderella the Cat" never approaches that level. Dec 7, 2017 Full Review Lee Marshall Screen International Engagingly plotted, this hard-boiled fairytale has a potentially wider audience than Rak's debut, especially on home ground in Italy, as well as in animation-friendly France and Belgium. Oct 15, 2018 Full Review Jennie Kermode Eye for Film It has demonstrated that it can appeal to viewers across national borders, and it will be of particular interest to those intrigued by the origins and complexities of the Cinderella tale. Rated: 3/5 Aug 1, 2018 Full Review Sarah Boslaugh TheArtsStl ...even when graded on a curve, Cinderella the Cat, now playing at Fantasia 2018, is disappointing. Audience Member I believe the main character is the mother. She is the only woman who lives in her love fantasy and finally awakes from it. She is the grown-up Cinderella, and I get this conclusion because she wears the same white dress as the cat. She saw the bird flying away while waiting to die for her sins is the most beautiful scene in the movie. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/06/23 Full Review Audience Member I saw this movie last night at its US premiere in Hollywood and I was blown away by everything. The graphics, the script, the symbolism, social commentary, A non-stop ride that never goes dull for even a moment. So rich and in the vein of the Italian masters. What a treat! I look forward to see what else writer/director Ivan Cappiello will come up with! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/22/23 Full Review Audience Member The real strenght of this film lies beneath its beautiful visual effects and a score that mixes classical neapolitan melodies, jazz and rock, and the audience is completely and nicely swept up by all this.
