Audience Member Before < Echoes Of The Rainbow >, personal reminiscence of the director & writer couple about their university dorm life back in early 1970s, some historical backdrop, plus a flashing statement about their affection for Hong Kong & view on current generation. All these elements, however, are not really that necessary nor helpful for story-telling, which makes it turned out to be so farfetched on the contrary. What really kills are the 2 romantic relationships depicted are so passionless plus zero touching indeed, in addition to the boring narrative & below average acting. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/04/23 Full Review Audience Member I usually don't watch Hong Kong or Chinese movies much. So this is one of a few that I really like a lot. I think Shu Qi is really pretty in this film and she kinda remind me of Aom Piyada a bit. Good story indeed. I wonder why all great love stories are mostly about love affair? ทำไมหนังรักดีๆ ต้องเป็นชู้กันหมดเลยอ่ะ?? Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/16/23 Full Review Audience Member Fairy tale stlye love story with tragic ending with a positive twist... Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/13/23 Full Review Audience Member Mabel Cheung channels the '97 handover angst through this bittersweet love story involving the on/off relationship between high school sweethearts leon Lai and Shu Qi, their separation and reunion apparently mirroring more serious political issues. As simple as the story seems, by injecting it with her deepest affection for Hong Kong, it's people and it's history, Mabel Cheung manages to transform it's banality into deepest emotion and human drama. Although ending on a possibly reassuring and conciliatory note, there's a nagging feeling of anxiety and uncertainty in the film's obsessively nostalgic overtones, and the thoughtfulness of of it all is well worth recognition. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/29/23 Full Review Audience Member love the story so much .. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/07/23 Full Review Audience Member One of the best Chinese romance films about two lovers who had fallen in love at the wrong time. The love story between them was romantic and touching. I think those who were studying in HKU in the 1970s would be especailly impressed by the movie.
