Jonathan F. Richards Film.com Director Laurent Cantet has pulled together a story that feels startlingly authentic, using Mike Leigh-like methods of extensive improvisation with a cast of real inner-city kids and a real teacher. Dave C I am unsure what so many people missed, watching this. I note that a number of reviews mark it down on the content of the trailer... one reason I'm glad I don't usually watch them, and that I didn't watch one for this movie. The cast is brilliant - so many names! It's a coming-of-age story with a tryst that represents sexual awakening and prowess, as well as lust, longing, desire, and frailty. Juxtaposed with the pressures of achieving, succeeding, and managing the expectations of others, it also highlights some of the complexities of friendships and relationships. What helps make this perhaps more engaging and entertaining than some c-o-a movies I've seen, is its slightly dark, sardonic humour Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 08/08/24 Full Review Bulgantamir B The plot was so liked me Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/04/24 Full Review Bahad j In my opinion, I felt that the movie was very good, behind all this, the filmmaker was able to come up with the right festive details to congratulate the members of the behind-the-scenes team. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/03/24 Full Review Cees T 7/10 - Better than Risky Business. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/16/24 Full Review Audience Member While elements of the plot & dialogue haven’t aged well, much of the comedy & drama surrounding McCarthy & Lowe’s friendship, as well as McCarthy & Bisset’s romance, feels sincere, credible, & even endearing. Many familiar faces here. #nitrosMovieChallenge Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/26/22 Full Review david f This Eighties film about two college roommates from different classes where one ends up bedding the other's mother is actually better than you might think it would be. Classic Rob Lowe and Andrew McCarthy. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Read all reviews
