Ruth Harris (Lynn Taylor) is badly injured in a boating accident and, according to her doctor (Patrick McGoohan), only a blood transfusion can save her. But Ruth's father, John (Michael Craig), is strictly religious and will not allow the transfusion. When Ruth dies, John is arrested for manslaughter, and his wife (Janet Munro) leaves him. With the help of his lawyer (Michael Bryant), John must come to terms with his religious beliefs and the death of his daughter.

After an accident in the nearby sea, Ruth's parents cannot agree on whether or not to save her life, due to differing religious convictions.
