Based in London as German planes strafe the city in 1940, American journalist "Mitch" Mitchell (Don Ameche) discovers flimsy evidence suggesting that Nazi ground troops are about to invade Great Britain. Protocol demands that he clear his newspaper articles with British teletype operator Jennifer Carson (Joan Bennett). But the explosive nature of what he's about to report causes both of them significant consternation. As the two grow closer, they must decide how to handle the matter.

Randall K Interesting story covering the air war over England in 1940. Don Ameche plays a reporter and Joan Bennett the secretary-love interest. Ameche is over caffeinated and sees only the "story" while Bennett's character keeps him in check and reminds him of a lost perspective. Ameche is tiring in his role and I felt exhausted trying to keep up with him. Bennett's steady, evocative concern eventually reaches Ameche's heart by the film's end. A good war-time movie that keeps the viewer engaged. The story tugs at the heart although the ending appears to be hastily constructed. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 10/30/24 Full Review Read all reviews
