John K An amazing stop-motion film. This was one of those animated movies I grew up with as a kid and now re-watching it as an adult, I still don't know why I liked it as a kid. Very bizarre. The animation is brilliant, the usage of colours makes the film so mysterious and the music was atmospheric. I love the acting in this, my favourite characters are Miss Spink and Forcible, their comedy creates an odd couple vibe that makes them enjoyable to watch. This film shouldn't be a PG, it should be a 12 [PG-13], but I can understand why it was rated this way. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/17/25 Full Review Zuzia m i LOVE this movie its my comfort movie i watched it like 100 times i love how the end is like open so you can make theories.I read the book and I think the movie is better I still love the book tho Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/15/25 Full Review Audience Member “Coraline” isn’t just a movie — it’s an experience 😍. From the very first frame, I felt like I was literally being pulled out of my seat and dropped into a handcrafted dreamscape 😁. The stop-motion animation blew my mind — every texture, shadow, and tiny movement feels alive, as if the world itself is breathing. Watching it in high quality made me fall in love even more with how stunningly detailed it is. The story starts with the magical pull of a secret doorway to a better world, echoing that whimsical feeling of Alice in Wonderland, but wow… “Coraline” takes that idea and runs with it. It’s darker, richer, more emotional, and much deeper 😍. The way it shifts from dazzling wonder to creeping dread is pure perfection, making me feel the temptation and the danger right along with Coraline herself. The sound design and music — oh my god 😄 — they wrap around you like a beautiful, eerie lullaby, making the dreamlike atmosphere even more vivid. And the symbolism! It’s not just a children’s story; it’s a layered journey about bravery, choice, and seeing through illusions. For me, “Coraline” captures that magical yet unsettling feeling of being inside a dream you never want to wake up from — beautiful, strange, and just a little scary in the best way possible 😍. It’s honestly a masterpiece of animation and storytelling, and it outshines almost every film in its genre. If you’ve ever wanted to step into a world as enchanting as Alice’s but with sharper teeth, deeper meaning, and pure magic, “Coraline” is absolutely essential viewing 😁. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/15/25 Full Review BadNews R I had only seen bits and pieces of Coraline over the years—through memes, trailers, and online clips—but I never actually sat down to watch the full film until now, in 2025. And honestly, I was surprised by just how dark and unsettling it really is. This isn’t your typical children’s animated feature. At its core, Coraline is eerie, disturbing, and almost nightmarish in tone. The idea of a second universe where alternate “parents” lure a child in, only to try and steal her soul, is chilling—especially when marketed as a family film. That said, the creativity on display is undeniable. The film is beautifully crafted, with stop-motion animation that feels both mesmerizing and grotesque. Dakota Fanning (as Coraline) and Teri Hatcher (as both the real mother and the sinister Other Mother) give fantastic performances, perfectly capturing the balance between innocence, love, and menace. Director Henry Selick deserves credit for how he presented this story. His vision blends fairy tale wonder with genuine horror, though I can’t help but feel this film is better suited for older audiences. Children under the age of 10, in particular, might find it far too disturbing. The imagery alone—the button eyes, twisted transformations, and monstrous spider-like final form of the Other Mother—lands closer to horror than fantasy. The character designs amplify the unease. The Other Mother’s final spider-like reveal is terrifying, but even Coraline’s friend Wybie feels strange—his tilted head and awkwardly drawn body give him an unnerving presence. In contrast, the black cat is one of the few comforting figures in the story, providing wisdom, clarity, and balance against the chaos. The style feels very much in line with Tim Burton’s influence, though Coraline stands firmly on its own with its unique creepiness. While it unsettles, it also fascinates—blending horror and artistry into something rare in animation. In the end, I personally enjoyed the film. It’s well-written, deeply creative, and absolutely deserved its critical recognition and award nominations. Coraline pushed the boundaries of what animated films could be, proving they don’t have to play it safe or be tailored only for children. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 09/08/25 Full Review Audience Member This has nothing to do with the movie but TIM BURTON DIDNT MAKE THIS.. 😭😭😭😭😭 it was made by Henry Selick. GIVE THE MAN HIS PROPS.. but anyway.. film wise this movie is actually really good. you would think movie version of books would be terrible. even tho the movie doesnt tell the entire story it IS a pretty good representation of what Neil gaiman (the author of the original book) was tryna portray. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/29/25 Full Review Anna S The first time I watched it as a child, I turned it off from the opening credits. Now, it’s among the movies I re-watch every Halloween! ‘Coraline’ is an absolute must-see! One of Tim Burton’s greatest and detail-obsessive movies, with lots of foreshadowing in many scenes and terrifying hidden messages even for adults. The fact that in the opening credits what you assume as a child that is a sewing kit, you understand as an adult that are tools used in morgues to preserve deceased bodies, is a terrible realisation. Yet, the movie has a unique story that can be interpreted in various ways. The first time I watched it, I thought that it was about being an obedient child to your parents because they are the only ones who love you. As an adult, I believe it’s about death and how we navigate around the thought and the reality of it. As a child I thought that Coraline lived a happy life having learned her lesson. As an adult I believe that Coraline is trapped but taught herself to live as nicely as she can considering the circumstances. Some friends of mine have completely different ideas about what happened in the movie and what was the message behind it. Whatever you think of this movie will fall flat the moment you hit play, so do yourself a favour and watch it! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/23/25 Full Review Read all reviews
