What to Know

Critics Consensus

The story is not new, but the film gets credit for trying to move away from the genre's cliches. Kirsten Dunst and newcomer Jay Hernandez give believable performances.

[Dunst's] intelligent, complex performance makes Nicole a charming, frustrating, pathetic, and ballsy protagonist worthy of screen time. Go to Full Review

Marlee M @mmarleeeden Dec 11 I loved this movie. It addressed so many complex issues. The main characters had great chemistry. See more LUCREZIA R @lucreziaaa Dec 6 i loved the movie and i think every teenager who dream's of a crazy love story should see it. And even all the ones who just are having a hard time. I felt like by watching the movie i was having some kind of therapy, i felt better with myself. The actors don't feel better humans than me, i feel just like them, and that's why i loved the movie and i think the director made an incredibel job and even the ones who made the castings chosed the perfect actors for every singel role See more Farah R @Farah Nov 24 The movie’s all too familiar story is leveled up by the solid performances of its young leads, offering richer context and deeper meaning. Yet, it’s difficult to connect with the raging hormones of teen love when it seems somewhat trivial to an adult. See more AL Sep 18 Phenomenal movie. Rotten Tomatoes rankings suck. This movie deals with so many complex issues so delicately and the two leads have such fantastic chemistry that I don't understand how anyone could not give it five stars. The writing is also incredible and lines are delivered without much pomp and circumstance, but with all the genuine and authentic tone of real life happening in front of our eyes. The simplicity is perhaps the best understated value of this film, which has been engraved in my heart for years. Bravo to everyone involved in this emotional rollercoaster of best tv viewing! See more Ashley O Jan 31 I loved this film as a teen when it came out. When I rewatch it as an adult: there’s a lot more below the surface that they could’ve unpacked in terms of mental health etc. but they would’ve had to give it an R rating and it would’ve lost it’s cute/young love appeal. It’s still a fun movie and an enjoyable watch. I think this movie knows what it is and therefore doesn’t dive too deep below the surface get to the raw subject of mentally unwell teen issues—otherwise the film would lose its target audience and not know what it is. All that to say, I still love this movie! See more Read all reviews
