Barney climbs the stage of the Budapest opera house while underwater androgynous faeries attend to the nether regions of a differentiated being in a finale that "defers definitive conclusion." Go to Full Review

Some of the richest, most gorgeous imagery of the cycle, much of it taking place in a dark, baroque Budapest opera house. Holds the interest hypnotically, but may seem inconclusive for the concluding segment of such a sprawling work Go to Full Review

Barney's outlandish mise-en-scène, forever emphasizing the organic, the amorphous, the massive, the adhesive, and the fluorescent in quite literal ways, also retains those very qualities in my memory. Go to Full Review

06/15/2012 Very rich. Disturbingly mesmerizing. See more 03/18/2012 Nice setting in this operatic instalment of Cremaster, and a known name in the form of Ursual Andress! As with Cremaster 3, there are some impressive climbing scenes from director Matthew Barney. What does it all mean? No idea. See more 06/20/2010 I was extremely impressed with this film. While Cremaster 4 was just an interesting experiment, this film was beautiful and terribly interesting. Of course, I think the highlight is the Budapest Opera House which was breathataking, I can't believe places like that exist, I would love to visit that sometime in my life. Basically the film is a 50 minute opera, with excellent visuals, music, costume, and editing. Of course, there are more of those crazy pink characters that add more poignancy to the story, but even without them this film would have a strong effect. Unfortunately, I've only seen Cremaster 4 & 5, I'm hoping I'll get to see 1, 2, and 3 in the future, but I can tell that it's an extremely original series that needs to be seen to be believed. See more 09/09/2009 yup, more weirdness. But hey, that's art I guess. I'd give the cycle as a whole a 3.5 out of 5. Interesting stuff, just not for me. See more 07/09/2008 My favorite of the 5 Cremaster films. Dark and beautiful. The Bath scenes are breathtaking. See more Read all reviews
